Alina Baraz & Galimatias – Urban Flora

Urban Flora is an album created by Alina Baraz & Glimatias, similar to Flume, the artists have a very unusual feel to their music. Alina Baraz’ work varies within 2 main genres, House music and Electronic, this is very similar to Flume and they have a very indistinguishable feel to their songs.

Above is the front cover of the Digipak from Alina Baraz & Galimatias’ album ‘Urban Flora’. Its colour scheme seems very dull at first, its heavy use of grey’s and white’s seem to make it not visually pleasing however when you look in detail that isn’t the case. As you can see the main image is a shoulders and upwards area of a statue. On the left it is the statue as it would normally be whereas on the right side it is made out of flowers and shrubbery. This can be related to the album name itself ‘Urban Flora’, ‘Urban’ refers to a city/man made objects, whereas ‘Flora’ refers to plants. Therefore this image can be seen to represent the album name, which may also be reinforced by the colour choices. The use of greys where ‘man’ may have been and where there is wildlife/’Flora’ there is more natural colours such as pinks/greens etc.

Above is the song list within the Digipak. It has a very similar feel to the cover; it has a very bland colour scheme and has nothing that stands out. The font however is very different to normal fonts. The font used on the front page is different from the back; it has a very unique aesthetic to it, which could be seen to follow the overall unique personalized feel to the graphics of the digipak. The font on the back is also different, it follows a usual bold looking font, well spaced out however has an unusual way of listing the songs in order, instead of typically writing 1. As an example it instead uses 01\\, which isn’t something that you would commonly see on a digipak, showing the creative diversity of the artist.
