Digipak and Advert
Ancillary products to support your video
2
DigipakA Digipak typically consists of a book-style paper or cardboard outer binding with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside.
Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums
Digipak-style cases grew in popularity among record labels and recording artists in the early 2000s.

Research and planning
Just like the videos you have looked at, each genre of music has its own style of album artwork
Your research into your chosen genre should have given you a good understanding of the mise en scene and iconography of your genre
You should look at examples of album artwork from the band/artist whose song you are using and also examples from other bands/artists in the same genre

Adverts
AS Media Studies 2010
The purpose of your advert is to promote the digipak for the band.
You should aim to have an advert which is similar in style to the digipak you have created.
A good place to look for examples of adverts is in magazines which cover your bands/artists genre of music. Here you should find lots of examples to help you understand existing products.
You should provide plans for your advert to include layouts and also the production of photographs or graphics in the same way as you would with your digipak or did with your magazine layouts last year.

Planning
Your plans should include drafts and sketches of designs
Your plans should detail when, where and how you will capture your images
Your plans should include detailed examples from real products to support the choices you have made
You should think carefully about how your digipak will work alongside your advert and in support of your music video

Advert
AS Media Studies 2010
Think carefully about your advert
Portrait orientation photographs are better suited to the page than landscape
You could split the work between the group and some could work on the digipak and others on the advert
Think about how the advert will look when viewed next to digipak and if the products will work together
You may want to take photographs whilst shooting the video. If this is the case you can still plan, design and produce your advert and then add the photographs in once you have taken them

Presenting research
AS Media Studies 2010
You should present examples of existing products on your blog alongside your analysis of them
You can use the handouts to help organise your research and standardise it across your group but you should provide more detailed analysis of your own in order to get top marks.
At the end of this week your research should be complete and ready to present to the rest of your group
