Choosing the first topic can be overwhelming. Ifound it best to focus on subjects I am very

passionate about. I ended up at how to shoot abasketball, but wanted to add an interesting

twist.

T H E T W I S T

I decided to combine the idea of how toshoot a basketball with how to set goals.

This way I approached a more universal topicbut in a new way. I focused hard to make it

relevant to anyone in my audience.

T H E P R O PBringing in my basketball allowed my

audience to feel it and understand thebasketball portion of the presentation

better. Having an effective prop can reallypush the presentation to the next level.

The first presentation is super nervewracking. Being confident is hard when youdon't know what to expect so I faked it till I

made it. It all starts with a deep breath.

Adding in a special feature can set yourpresentation apart. My special feature was

the utilization of visualization in myintroduction and conclusion. It allowed me to

connect with my audience.

P R A C T I C EHow to prepare enough but not too much is the

hardest part of the first presentation. I triedreally hard to not script out my speech so that it

would be more conversational but also wanted tonail it. Timing is important and practice is the only

way to measure that properly.

Choose a topic you are passionateabout and one you can convinceyour audience of! I chose hair

donation because of myexperience donating my own hair.I

believe it is an act everyoneshould do, after all if we don't all

that hair goes to waste.

Become a credible source, find personalconnections to the topic and do research! My storyabout when I donated my hair infant of hundredsof people was strong, what I needed was to do

some research to learn more about the process. Ilearned new information about how to donate

small amounts to save the environment. It mademy speech so much stronger and allowed me to

appeal to a larger audience.

Choose a shade of persuasion:1. To Strengthen Commitment2. To Weaken Commitment

3. To ConvertI chose to strengthen commitment. There is no

reason people shouldn't donate their hair but a lot ofpeople still don't think to do it when they get to thesalon. My goal was to convince my audience they

should be donating their hair every time.

Create the slide deck to add value to thepresentation. Make sure to make the

graph simple to read and relevant. I choseto use mostly pictures of my personal

experience in my slides. My graph helpedvisualize hair donation lengths. Puttinginformation into the graph was difficult, I

didn't have great data.

Choose a prop if it adds value to thepresentation. I chose to tie ribbons in myhair to emphasize what the hair donationrequirements look like visually. I think ithelped my audience connect with the

idea of hair donation.

Practice, practice, practice and practice somemore. The persuasive is the longest individualpresentation so it is essential to make surethe timing is right. I practiced in front of mylaptop at first, then in front of the mirror andfinally in front of my roommate. By then I felt

ready!

Be convincing! Believe inyourself and your audience willbelieve what you are saying.

Before every presentation I liketo widen my stance to feel solidand confident. From there I go

for it and give it my all!

Meet the group!

Our team had some difficulties trying to

pick a company at first but then we

thought, hey why don't we go

somewhere we can get a treat. Rain or

Shine was the perfect place to satisfy

our sweet tooth and start the research. We hopped in my car and went

straight to Rain or Shine the same day

we decided on what company to do.

Luckily we arrived at a slow time

around 3PM. We were able to then ask the

employees some questions about the

company and their sustainable and

green practices. Talking to the

employees allowed us to enrich our

presentation with personal testimony.

Group projects are always long but

dividing and conquering can make the

process seem effortless. By focusing

on one aspect of the business you can

become an expert in that area. We

then brought all our parts together to

help each other improve them.

Getting together as a group and practicing

it all together feels so satisfying! We were

able to help each other make our parts

even stronger. Standing among your

peers is empowering!Having the trial run was very helpful

for our team. We were able to work

out any kinks and go into the

second presentation to kill it!

We then thought the best plan would

be to check out what we could find

online. Their social media pages

proved to be very valuable in helping

us find more information about the

charities they work with.

Getting to know your group's

presentation styles helps with

chemistry! It is also nice to get to know

people on a more personal level. My

group got along super well and it had a

big positive effect on our performance.

The Opening

In class we worked on openings that told

a story. My team ended up doing a kind of

spoken word performance. We liked how

it worked so much that we chose to

implement it in our real presentation. This

took a lot of practice and synchronicity.

PERSONALCOMMITMENT

My Grandpa

PechaKucha

This was my favorite presentation to

both present and listen to in the video

rooms. So many people shared such

beautiful personal stories. I found that

the more personal the better for this

presentation. Of course you need to

relate it back to a common theme

everyone else can associate with, but

the best presentations in my opinion

were the personal ones that I felt

connected to.

20 SLIDES

I decided to do my personal

commitment about my

relationship with my grandpa.

Although we have spent a lot of

time together, we have never

had a conversation because of

the language barrier. It was so

cool to learn more about him in

the process.

Presentation #4 COMPLETE!

20 seconds

I chose old photographs of

me and my grandpa to show

our relationship.
