The Governor was inter- acting with the students who have registered themselves, for undergoing coaching for taking the Civil Services Examination, at the Centre for Career Planning and Counselling at the Kashmir University. He reiterated that the youth of the Jammu and Kashmir State have very high potential if provided the appropriate opportuni- ties and called upon them to work hard so that a size- able number of them could get selected for the All India Civil Services and other supe- rior openings at the national level. Expressing happi- ness over the progressive increase, every passing year, in the number of boys and girls from J&K who are joining the All India and Cen- tral Services, he said that he has great expectations from the youth of the State. He observed that if they worked hard J&K has the potential to be one of the first three States in the country. He advised the students to make the best use of all the available opportunities, particularly the very well stocked library of the Kash- mir University. Referring to the need for setting up a residential coaching centre at the Kash- mir University, the Governor said that the Vice Chancel- lor had already taken up this matter and he shall discuss this with the Union Human Resource Development Min- ister during his forthcoming visit to the State. Referring to the activi- ties of the Centre for Career Planning and Counselling of the Kashmir University, the Governor was happy to be informed that in the past year over 600 students of the University had secured placements in the leading corporate houses. He suggested to the Vice- Chancellor to arrange inter- action of the boys and girls undergoing coaching at this Counselling Centre with those who have qualified for the All India Civil Services from the State this year and, besides, arrange lectures on relevant themes by experts, for the ben- efit of the students. This was followed by a lively question-answer session during which the Governor shared his experiences with the students and gave some suggestions to them about how to get through in the competi- tive examinations. “You are very lucky to have all the opportunities and you have to make the best use of these”, He said and urged them to firmly resolve that they shall succeed not- withstanding any constraints which they may face. DFP denounces Shah’s house arrest Srinagar, May 24: Democratic Freedom Party chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah was again placed under house arrest today. “By placing Shah under house arrest, the police barred him from participating in the funeral prayers of Maulvi Hilal Ahmad,” said a spokesman of the DFP in a statement today. Zaffar alleges human rights violations Srinagar, May 24: Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) chairman Zaffar Akbar Bhat has appealed to the inter- national human rights organizations to take notice of the human rights violations being allegedly committed by the forces in Kash- mir. Zaffar was addressing a gathering at Barzalla here. He alleged that the police and armed forces were using lethal weapons against innocent people of Kashmir. He alleged that the use of brute force could not prevent the people of Kashmir from pursuing their just struggle for securing right to self-determination. Zaffar paid tributes to Mufti Hilal, Jibran Khalid, Abdus Salam, Bilal Ahmad Beig, Abdul Majeed Shaikh , Muhammad Yasin and other martyrs of Kashmir. Army organises medical camp Srinagar, May 24: A free medical camp was organized at Palhalan by Army’s 29 Rashtriya Rifles. A statement said the camp was organised for the first time in this area in which a team of doctors including dentist and lady doctors were brought together under one roof to perform a free health checkup. A large number of patients of all age groups including children and women from in and around Palhalan were provided free medical aid and medicines by the team of doctors from both civil and Army. The medical camp was followed by Awami Mulaqat which was chaired Brig Sanjay Puri, Commander, 10 Sector RR. Brig Sanjay Puri, Col Prashant Pande, Commanding Officer 29 RR, Moin Ahmad, Tehsildar Pattan and Fayaz Ahmad, SDPO Pattan were amongst the prominent army and civil dignitaries present on the occasion.
