Vils Larks becomes a cultural worker, financed by the Swedish state and establishment, hoping to be able to make a livelihood of his art. He settles in his apartment building with his non-white neighbours who are plagued with never getting any grants for their art projects. Just getting a regular job is a hassle. While Vils performance anxiety increases, due to his lack of creative ideas, and his neighbours economic situation becomes even more precarious, Vils starts to succumb to the doomsday prophecies of the mass media and the murky atmosphere of the internet bubbles of social media and gets more and more caught up in the ideas of “law and order”, “responsible immigration”, “the threat of islamization” and “Swedish values”. Determined to deny his own privileges and the structural discrimination of his neighbours, he starts realizing that the solution to his problems could very well lie in the concept of “freedom of expression”.
