Developing the Tarremah School community? In these times when the cultural imperative is to individualise, to attain full consciousness of our self, we more often than not feel alienated from those around us – and even of all outer circumstances – until we discover a most fundamental truth that, as Steiner expressed it, “each human being learns to see that it is not a mere chance that they happen to be born in a particular place at a particular time, that it has been determined that they find themselves in just the place where they are; they learn to recognize that it is their own fitting and well-founded fate which has placed them amidst that human community in which they find themselves. The outcome of such understanding will be… a mighty pulse of new life throughout all of a human being’s powers… that shall lay hold upon the souls of all human beings and fire the inner life within them.”
Tarremah School Council and the School Executive have prioritised support for our school community. We are working on a school policy that includes elements of engaging everyone through creating - a positive school culture so that everyone wants to be involved; an environment that is safe and supportive; respectful relationships that value diversity and result in a community for everyone; individual responsibility for positive relationships; students participation in all aspects of the school community; and links between our school community and the local community.
There are so many ways that we develop our community - through formal events such as: the festivals, the fair, P&F events, the music concerts; and informally, through after school play in the amphitheatre, car park chats and connection through class events. But based on Steiner’s teachings we gain so much in the connection made by doing service for others in the school. For example: the tuck shop hours; the volunteer hours in the classroom and on camps; whole school working bees; the response to events such as the 2018 May storm event, are all examples of
time given freely to support the students and the school.
How to do this when there are lots of demands on our time? Class parents and the P&F are working to make it easy to offer an hour of your time: working bees make weekends an option for full time working parents; coming to events and greeting new faces, all contribute to a rich school community where connections can lead to opportunities developing.
Your ideas? - Please respond to the upcoming Tarremah Parent Survey which will be emailed to you in the next week and if you are part of the community but don’t receive the survey send an email to [email protected] including Tarremah School Community in the subject title. Class 9 hike to Cape Pillar. Class 9 recently hiked down to Cape Pillar as part of
their Overland Track camp preparation for next year.
Highlights included the breathtaking views from the
cliffs over Tasman Island. The vista was particularly
wondrous with the sea mists revealing and hiding
glimpses of the cliffs and peaks. In the words of Sir
Edmund Hillary, “it’s pretty speccy”.
Class 7 have just completed their beautiful dolls! At the end of their second 7-year cycle, the 13-14 year
old child is moving away from the imaginative world of
feeling and into the world of critical thinking. They also
look at how they came into being during the Birthing
Main Lesson earlier in the year.
Creating a soft toy or a doll is about ensouling a human
form. The students bring life into these materials
through soft craft and they feel love their little
creations.
On a practical level, creating the dolls is a culmination
of all the skills they’ve learned during their primary
years in the areas of sewing, embroidery, crotchet and
knitting. In addition to this, a high level of fine motor
skills is needed to make these dolls.
Well done to this year's Class 7 students - the dolls are
fantastic!
Class 3’s Building Main Lesson At the end of last term Class 3 were working hard on
their Building Main Lesson. Here are a few examples of
the wonderful homes from around the world that the
children made and presented in the final week of term.

News and Events
Welcome Back to Margaret Perversi As most of you are well aware our beloved Gina Rose is
on Maternity Leave in Term 4 of this year and Term 1 in
2019. The School wishes to extend our heartfelt
blessing and joy for the arrival of this newest member
of the Rose family and the Tarremah
community!
We are delighted to announce that Margaret Perversi
will assume many of Gina’s classes. This will
complement Emily Wolfe, our Strings Teacher, who will
work with some more of the primary classes to
complete the music program.
As well as having 3 children attend Tarremah,
Margaret was a member of the College, taught as a
Class Teacher, Craft and Music Teacher over a number
of years.
Margaret has returned this year from a six-year stint in
Melbourne where she taught textiles and singing to
primary classes at Sophia Mundi, a well-established
Steiner School in inner Melbourne. Margaret is
currently undertaking a Batchelor of Fine Art Honours
degree at UTAS.
The School Executive and the Tarremah Community
welcomes Margaret back and look forward to her
return.

The Susteinerbles. As you may know, climate change is a massive issue
facing our society. In an effort to fight back against this
change, we have started a group of environmentally
aware students from multiple grades. We call ourselves
The Susteinerbles! We meet once a week on Tuesdays,
to discuss issues and consider our approach towards
making Tarremah more environmentally friendly.
Our long-term goal is to get solar panels for the school
and repower the school to 110% renewable energy. You
may ask yourself how we will be achieving
110%...... come and ask us!
We have started small, by providing compost buckets
and paper recycling systems in every classroom. We
have also initiated a rubbish-free lunch day on
Tuesdays.
The group will have a stall at the School Fair, where we
will sell beeswax lunch wraps. This will help us to raise
the funds we need to eventually repower the school
with solar panels.
You can help us reach our goal by visiting our stall at
the School Fair, and making sure you use the compost
buckets and paper recycling boxes in your classrooms!

We have parents and friends, past and present, all focussing their energy and passions into some beautiful items. As we prepare for the day we would love it if all your precious items could be delivered so we can plan, price and work towards creating a beautiful room.
If you have unfinished items and don't think you'll get to them, please don't despair, we are happy to accept
them as well. Left over materials will also be gratefully received.
Items can be delivered to Lyrebird in town, at Karen Coombe's house at 4 Willowbend in Kingston, or I am able to collect from you.
Craft Sessions We are offering an additional crafting opportunity on Friday 2 and 9 November in the school hall from 9am.
There will be materials, guidance and help, and a cuppa on the go. Bring your current handwork, your nimble fingers, and your interest in contributing to the fair.
