Session 2 – Abortion Pt.2

What are the differences between the fertilized egg (or unborn child) and us?

Sled Size

Level of development

Environment

Degree of dependency

Do any of these things justify an abortion?

Most of these things can be applied to a baby/toddler as well

Potential Human or Human with potential?

When you are looking at an unborn baby, some people

look at it like a car assembly

Would you say the first few parts to a car makes a car? Or is it just a car in the making?

It’s not like a car line though

It’s more like film that needs to be

developed

It’s not that the picture is being made, it’s that the picture is there,

it just needs to be developed

Why do doctors still offer the abortions?

In 2009, the average cost of a nonhospital

abortion with local anesthesia at 10 weeks

of gestation was $451 (AGI).

1 Timothy 6:10: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they

have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

The fact that people are willing to kill a baby for money shows you just how sinful

the human race is

“I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and similarly I will not give

a woman a pessary to cause an abortion.”

“οὐ δώσω δὲ οὐδὲ φάρμακον οὐδενὶ αἰτηθεὶς θανάσιμον, οὐδὲ ὑφηγήσομαι συμβουλίην τοιήνδε ὁμοίως δὲ οὐδὲ γυναικὶ πεσσὸν φθόριον δώσω. ἁγνῶς δὲ καὶ ‧

ὁσίως διατηρήσω βίον τὸν ἐμὸν καὶ τέχνην τὴν ἐμήν.”

You’ve heard of the Hippocratic Oath?

The oath has some issues, but it got this right

Psalm 82:3-4: "Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy;

deliver them from the hand of the wicked."

Shouldn’t we mind our own business?

How can Christians do this?

Legislation and creating laws that prevent abortions is one way

Helping those who are pregnant and struggling is another way!

What about those who kill abortion doctors?“The murder of Doctor George Tiller is an abhorrent act of violence, and his family is in our thoughts and prayers

at this tragic moment. Federal law enforcement is coordinating with local law enforcement officials in Kansas on the investigation of this crime, and I have directed the United States Marshals Service to offer protection to other appropriate people and facilities

around the nation. The Department of Justice will work to bring the perpetrator of this crime to justice. As a

precautionary measure, we will also take appropriate steps to help prevent any related acts of violence from

occurring.” - US Attorney General Eric Holder

Would it be consistent with

our Biblical beliefs to believe it is wrong to kill

an abortion doctor?

The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred on December 14, 2012,

in Newtown, Connecticut when 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and 6 adult

staff members

If you had a gun and were at the school when the shooting took place, would you kill the man

shooting the children?

Would you be seen as a murderer or hero by our public for killing the man shooting the children?

Why would the unborn child be less entitled to being defended as those children in the school?

I am NOT saying to go kill abortion doctors, I am saying if we really believe what we say, it would be no

different than killing a murderer who is shooting children

Abortions also are very harmful to the mother

In 2007, 6 women died as a result of complications from known legal induced abortion

The September 17, 2003 abortion saw Milton

Nathanson, then employed by Hodari, do an abortion on

Johnson. She died the next day from "anoxic encephalopahy

due to cardiac arrest" resulting from the abortion, according

to official reports.

Lead researcher Dr Robbert van Oppenraaij presented his findings before the collegium of

scientists today at the annual European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in

Amsterdam. He says one induced abortion raisers the risk of premature birth in a next pregnancy by 20 percent. Two or more abortions raises the risk

by 90 percent and doubles the risk of a very premature birth, at 34 weeks or less.

Many studies have been done to show the massive emotional impact that an abortion can have on the

mother AND the father

Abortion also has an economic impact The calculated annual impact on national income of 1,500,000 economically active

additional lives would be… Men: $24,409 (1) X .474 (2) X 1,500,000 (3) X 2.5 (4) = $43,386,997,500

Women: $10,899 (1) X .526 (2) X 1,500,000 (3) X 2.5 (4) = $21,498,277,500TOTAL additional annual national income: $64,885,275,000

Since 1973, approximately 50 million potential American children have been aborted. If they had all lived, their economic impact in the year 2008 (in 1984 dollars) would

have been roughly:Men: 50,000,000 X $24,409 X .474 X 2.5 = $1,446,233,250,000Women: 50,000,000 X 10,899 X .526 X 2.5 = $716,609,250,000TOTAL: $2,162,842,500,000

Assuming that approximately 20% of income is absorbed by Federal taxes of one sort or another, these never-to-

exist taxpayers would have generated nearly $116 billion in tax revenues in that year (2010) alone.

Rebuttals to the common reasons to have an abortion

- The women should have the right to choose, - it’s her body

Germany was Hitler’ country, does that mean

he is justified for killing the Jews inside his

country?

Exodus 20:13 - “Thou shalt not kill.”

No it’s not her body

“Less than half of teens who become mothers before age 18 graduate from high school. College students who become pregnant and give birth are also much

less likely to complete their education than their peers.”

- Negative Impact on the Mother's Life

They should have been more careful first off…

Don’t murder a baby for your mistake…

Adoption is always an option once the child is born…

This view is also inconsistent, why shouldn’t it carry to outside the womb? If a child become a

negative impact after they are born why can’t they be killed then by the mother?

Obviously the answer is because murder is wrong

and even if she doesn’t want to, the mother has a

responsibility to take care of the child, or give them up for adoption if they can’t

- Financial Instability

This should also apply to kids outside the womb then…

The claim that people having abortions are poor and can’t afford the child are also exaggerated…

Who's having abortions (income)? Women with family incomes less than $15,000 obtain 28.7% of all abortions;

Women with family incomes between $15,000 and $29,999 obtain 19.5%; Women with family incomes between $30,000 and $59,999 obtain 38.0%;

Women with family incomes over $60,000 obtain 13.8%.

The majority of people having abortions can afford the child… the other ones who cannot should

consider adoption!

- Abortions done early on isn’t murder

52% of all abortions occur before the 9th week of pregnancy, 25% happen between the 9th & 10th week, 12% happen between the 11th and 12th

week, 6% happen between the 13th & 15th week, 4% happen between the 16th & 20th week, and

1% of all abortions (16,450/yr.) happen after the 20th week of pregnancy.

But if what we’ve already discussed is true, the age of the baby (1 week or 25 weeks) doesn’t change

that it’s murder

The majority of abortions are done when the baby is older then you see in this

picture! And you can clearly tell it’s a human!

Scientists know that it’s a human from the point of conception! Just because its less developed doesn’t mean its not a living person, you’re more developed

than you’re child, but that doesn’t mean your child isn’t alive!

- The baby can’t survive on it’s own so its not alive in the normal sense

You’re two year old child can’t survive on his/her

own…

You naked/alone with no supplies on the North Pole can’t survive either…

A paralyzed person can’t survive alone either…

What if you were stuck there… and someone had the opportunity to save you? Would it be wrong not to?

- Peer pressure from family and friends

Peer-pressure from her husband/boy friend

Peer pressure from your friends

Peer pressure from your family (parents)

It doesn’t matter what they think or want, its wrong to kill the baby.

- Has all the children she wants/Other family responsibilities

As if life should always goes the way we planned

and “wanted it to”

If you decide you don’t want the baby realize that there

are thousands of people who will take the baby

- If the baby can’t feel pain then it’s okay

As if the definition of a person is dependant on our ability to feel pain

There are many ways that you can be killed that don’t involve pain… that doesn’t mean we should legalize

those ways

And if feel pain is the definition of a person and who has rights than why doesn’t this apply to all the

animals too? They feel pain in the same way

Some harder ones to answer…

- What if the child is from rape?

Weather the child is from rape or normal means doesn’t change the fact it’s a child

If you want to kill someone when a girl gets pregnant from rape, I vote we kill the rapist, not

the innocent child!

- The pregnancy may remind the mother - of the awful event

What if she has the memory of the event after the child is born? Is it different?

This excuse is over-used, only 1% of abortions occur due to rape!

The problem is people don’t want to accept that the unborn child should have the same rights as those

who have been born

- What if the mothers life is threatened? How serious is the threat?

- What if the mother and child will both - die in the pregnancy

If there is no doubt that both the mother and child will die in the pregnancy, I think aborting the child is

justified to save the life of the mother.

However, it would have to be a great risk, not just the standard chance of dying in child birth

The final claim that we must deal with

If mothers can’t get legal abortions that just means they will do it illegally which will cause many moms to have medical problems and die from unsafe methods

This brings up the entire question of why we make laws then?

If it was legal to murder elementary children, how many of us are going to start doing it?

No one will do it… except those who were already planning on it. So why should it be illegal? The same

number of people will do it either way

After all, the fact that it’s illegal to shoot kids leads most people who do it to commit suicide or be shot

by someone else who’s trying to stop them

Why don’t we legalize it then?

Because it’s wrong. The end.

If women choose to have abortions privately, that’s their choice… but it should be illegal and punishable by law if indeed it’s murder

Psalm 82:3-4: "Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy;

deliver them from the hand of the wicked."

Memory Verse

Ezekiel 16:20-21: “And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you

sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter that you slaughtered my

children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them?”
