“We are proud to be a major player for an innovative solution for the secure movement of quality malting barley.”
Guy Newsam. General Manager MMSC
The 24,000 tonnes storage, drying and cleaning complex, built at the Muntons Malt Flamborough site near Bridlington, was set up to protect the continuity of supply and demand for quality British malting barley. English Farming and Food Partnership brokered a deal between Muntons Malt and two farmer co-operatives - Openfield and GrainCo - to build the complex, which promises significant environmental benefits. The barley drier alone is said to cut CO2 emissions by around 650 tonnes per year compared with farm-based drying.
Muntons’ General Manager Guy Newsam said: “We are proud to be a major player for an innovative solution for the secure movement of quality malting barley. The key aim of the Muntons Malt Supply Chain (MMSC) is to help growers understand the requirements of all partners in the brewing industry and deliver smart supply chain solutions.”
Britcon’s work comprised site access roadways, intake and cleaner building infrastructure, drainage and interception pits, six heavily reinforced concrete silo bases, weighbridge infrastructure and numerous foundations, support pads and ductways.

RISKS DURING CONSTRUCTION:
• DEMARCATION: Perimeter ground beams (GLs 1 ,2 ,3 ,4 ,A & W) are to have a clear area of demarcation 2m from the face of the ground beam. No materials, cranes, MEWPS or heavy equipment are to surcharge this area until such a time that all slabs are cast.
• DEEP EXCAVATIONS: Areas local to the power pack removal pits may require temporary sheet piling tied back to ground beams. The contractor will need to review this requirement during construction.
OPERATION / MAINTENANCE RISKS:
• O&M MANUALS: Refer to Contractors O&M manual for site activities, Border Steels O&M manual for superstructure inspection frequency
RISKS DURING DEMOLITION / DECOMMISSIONING / DISMANTLING / ALTERATIONS
• SEWER: Existing sewer located beneath • UXO: Risk is considered to be low.

These are a trip hazard and should be clearly marked on site at all times with highly visible tape or similar. Any exposed bar ends need to be capped with mushrooms. All cages are to be carefully lifted and installed making sure that reinforcement is stable during any lifting or whilst being built.
• CRANES AND PLANT MOVEMENT: Crane and all on-site workers plant need to be aware that they are operating next to a live railway. Please refer to Network Rail standards for safe operating procedures.
• SERVICES: Refer to services drawing and utilities scan for location of any underground services. Risk that unknown services may be present.
• UXO: Risk is considered to be low. • Contaminated subsoils and ground gases. Refer to SI and supplementary investigations undertaken
by SRL.
• SEALS: Seals located at movement joints should be regularly inspected and maintained in accordance with Craddys O&M manual.
• Contaminated subsoils. Refer to SI.• Principle barrier against ground gases is the mass nature of the substructures and
sealed joints

Dependable Structural Steel Solutions
Thank you for the phenomenal effort and success in delivering both Market Harborough and Kettering station works, both leading up to in readiness and the past 10 [6] days blockade.
This was an exceptional achievement and a huge credit to you and your teams, both in terms of the professional approach and the way in which all challenges were overcome during both programmes of work.
These packages of work and the blockade delivery are certainly something you can all be proud of personally and clearly, your efforts and achievements have been very well received by the Network Rail IPEM team, the Route [MD] and EMT, which will only go to enhance the reputation and confidence the client has in our collective team to deliver these complex schemes as we commence CP6.

News Wire CSRChildren and staff at Scunthorpe’s Toybox Nursery have expressed their thanks to our site team working on the former Civic Centre Building for being considerate neighbours.
The team have just completed phase 1 of the transformation of the Grade II listed building into a new first class campus, as part of the University Campus North Lincolnshire (UCNL) scheme.
Toybox Nursery sits adjacent the site, and staff were worried that noise and dust from the building work would disrupt the children and the nursery.
Nursery owner and Managing Director, David Brown, said: “It’s a sensitive space and we were worried that building work for months on end next door would disturb the peace of the nursery. However, Britcon have been superb. We’ve forged an excellent relationship with them and they’ve kept the disruption to a minimum for us.”

Team Attend Annual Jobs Fair
In July, the nursery held a Rhyme Challenge, and our Site Team agreed to stop work for over an hour to allow the children to have their event. Jackie Brown, Toybox Co-owner and Director, added: “It meant so much to us and the children that Britcon agreed to stop work for us and our event. They didn’t have to do that for us and it just shows how neighbourly they’ve been to us throughout the project.”
In recognition of ceasing work during the Rhyme Challenge, children at Toybox Nursery made a thank you card and presented it to Site Manager Kenny Sewell and Senior Contracts Manager Andy Toyne.
This is great feedback for Britcon and I would like to extend my thanks to each and every one of you involved on site. The small things do make a BIG difference.
Working in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council and Job Centre Plus, Britcon exhibited at the recent Annual Open Doors Jobs Fair at The Baths Hall, Scunthorpe. The event during September was well attended and we have received a great level of interest from people.
Thank you to all involved in making the event happen in particular Brandon, Declan and Ellie.
School Swap Classroom for Building SiteEarlier this year the Project Team working at the Yaddlethorpe Grange site, Scunthorpe invited a class of 6/7 year old children from Enderby Road Infant School for an educational visit to H.G. Homes new housing development.
The children have watched the development progress from just over the road for more than a year, and were given the opportunity to see first-hand what really goes into building new homes. Following the visit, H.G. Homes donated some wood to the school for them to make planters, beds and a mud kitchen. The site team also collected and donated Easter eggs as a treat for the children as part of a school collection. Thank you to Declan, Mick and the wider site team for making this happen. Another good news story to be proud of!
