The Meeting Street Center of Excellence was an 8 acre brownfield redevelopment project required an innovative and integrative approach to the layout and design of the playground spaces, materials, and structures. Extensive research, meetings with parents, teachers and physicians at the school led to a comprehensive understanding of the physical and sensory handicaps that were present.
Special consideration was given to the selection of materials, space planning, and structures as they related to the concept of integrative play. New signage and extensive landscaping was included as part of the playground design.
The goal of the project was to create a play space that would allow childern of all abilites to play together, as well as create a vibrant ‘gateway’ into South Providence.
The Boundless Playground at the Meeting Street Center of Excellence was completed in April 2009.

This residential master plan for a new home included the design of an entry court, elaborate entrance gates, swimming pool and formal lawn.
The clients desired a water feature that would serve as an aesthetic sculptural feature as well as a swimming pool. The circular pool was designed to have a 360 degree vanishing edge, with 18” exposed on the terrace side of the house, to provide visual interest from various rooms in the house.

This renovation to an existing home located on the bluff overlooking the West Passage of Narragansett Bay required an innovative design strategy to screen a bottomless sand filter. A bottomless sand filter is a wastewater treatment component in which septic system effluent is filtered through sand media. Given the restrictive lot size and house expansion, the bottomless sand filter could only be placed in the front yard on the north side of this property. Rather than hide the sand filter, it was incorporated as a design element into the landscape. The home renovation also called for new planting, circulation, and masonry designs.
The sand filter became a new sculptural element that was part of the landscape. The top of the sand filter featured a design that used contrasting polished riverstones laid in a radial pattern, held in with aluminum landscape edging. The edging was then softened by the placement of small ornamental grasses, hydrangeas and perennial plants hardy to the coastal climate. Natural stone and concrete pavers were creatively placed in the driveway and walkways

ACADEMIC WORK
ninigret park master planSouth Kingstown, Rhode Island University of Rhode Island 2005
The 240 acre site lay at the south coast of Rhode Island, adjacent to nature conservancy, residential development, and had a rich history in Naval Aviation.
The goal of this senior design studio project was to create a mixed use development while preserving 60% open space of an existingpublic park.
The tree placement in the MIA Garden was reflective of the airplane formation formed in honor of a soldier who was missing in action
The master plan included a design that would reflect the site’s cultural significance, promote active and passive recreational activity and be home to memorial gardens and an academic center.

At the center of the site were remnants of the Charlestown Naval Airforce Base’s runway. The design included a plan to preserve the shape of the runway by creating a Memorial Runway Garden, interwoven with pedestrian paths and distinct gardens at each terminus.
Each garden served to honor specific War Heroes, with the ‘Yellow Ribbon’ garden at center. The plantings in this garden were placed according to thier flower, leaf color and bloom time, for a continuous ‘yellow ribbon’ of color.
