ABSTRACT

Recent advancement in WiMAX and similar applications need the antennas

of broad bandwidth, small size, high gain, and enhanced efficiency. Microstrip patch

antennas are widely used in these applications due to advantageous features like

compactness, light weight and high efficiency. However, one of the major limitations

of the microstrip patch is the narrow bandwidth. The objective of this project is to

design, construct and fabricate a rectangular U-slot antenna for WiMAX applications

to operates at frequency range of 2.8-4.8GHz, to achieve a dual band of WiMAX

frequency. This antenna is fed by a microstrip feeding line. The antenna was

fabricated on FR4 substrate, that has a relative dielectric constant, .sr = 4.3, a loss

tangent tan 6 = 0.001 and thickness, h of 1.6 mm. Transmission feed Iine is used due

its better impedance matching capabilities than the inset feed technique. The

characterestic of each parameter of the antenna was analysed by using CST

simulation. This analysis is important to determine the effect of the each antenna

parameter to the output of the antenna. Insertion loss and return loss are two

important responses to be observed. The fabricated antenna is tested using network

analyzer.

ABSTRAK

Kemajuan terkini dalam WiMAX dan aplikasi yang serupa memerlukan

antena lebar jalur yang luas, saiz kecil, keuntungan yang tinggi, dan kecekapan yang

dipertingkatkan. Antena tampal mikrojalur digunakan secara meluas dalam aplikasi

ini kerana ciri-ciri berfaedah seperti padat, ringan dan kecekapan yang tinggi. Walau

bagaimanapun, salah satu batasan utama adalah lebar jalur yang sempit. Objektif

projek ini adalah untuk merekabentuk, membina dan membikin antena U-slot

segiempat untuk aplikasi WiMAX untuk beroperasi pada julat frekuensi 2.8-4.8GHz,

bagi mencapai jalur dwi-frekuensi WiMAX. Antena ini diberi suapan oleh garis

suapan mikrojalur. Antena telah dibikin pada FR4 substratum, yang mempunyai

pemalar dwi-elektrik relatif, .zr = 4.3, kerugian tangen tan 6 = 0.001 dan ketebalan, h

1.6 mm. Penghantaran suapan garis lurus digunakan kerana keupayaan galangan

pemadanan yang lebih baik daripada yang teknik suapan sisipan. Setiap ciri

parameter antena dianalisis dengan menggunakan simulasi CST. Analisis ini adalah

penting untuk menentukan kesan parameter setiap antena untuk keluaran antena.

Kehilangan sisipan dan kerugian pulangan dua adalah penting yang perlu dipatuhi.

Antena fabrikasi diuji dengan rangkaian analyzer.
