CONTENTSNO, design et al has grown over the years into much more than "just another magazine". We see ourselves at the heart of the design industry, as our name suggests we look at all aspects of design. This means everything from domestic interiors, to interior schemes for hotels, restaurants, super yachts and private planes. We have different titles and areas of the business that concentrate on each sector. Our readers are a select group, targeted high net worth individuals on the consumer side of things, that understand and appreciate good design from a broad perspective. They have a keen interest in current thinking and innovation and appreciate a sophisticated global take on design.
Our trade readers are very evident, they are high end leading design names from throughout the world. Some of them have entered our Awards in recent years, some are members of The Design Society. They are interior designers, architects, property developers, naval architects,
yacht specifiers, designers and owners. In 2006 we launched design et al with the aim of being "the first title to bridge the gap between the consumer and trade titles" and we believe we have succeeded in this instance.
From this point moving forward you will see that our work is about so much more than merely publishing magazines, we have expanded into specialist book printing, we host a series of global Design Awards, run an online design community and an rapidly expanding digital publishing arm of the business. Our aim is to really bring it all together in a way that no other company is currently doing.
Yes, we are niche, but in today's market you need to reach the right people who are responsive - and we certainly know our market.
So much so, that you will have to apply for space in design et al, or be invited.
Just another magazine?

Why subscription based?
In 2005, research indicated the 67% of retailers wanted to work with interior designers, architects and developers.
Even at a time when retail was good, the trend was moving in this direction, quite simply because a consumer may buy one kitchen/bathroom/sofa every 10 years, a designer may buy 10 this year.
The only way to get to a professional market is by directly working with them as subscribers.
Does this work?
Research tell us that you will need to deliver 19 free magazines to be as effective as selling one magazine in store. However a subscriber is 3.5 times as likely to respond to an advert than someone who has purchased a magazine in store and may buy another title next month/in 3 or 6 months time.

LUXE ET AL DPS
Luxe et al is a back to back magazine with design et al, hereby benefitting from design et al's readership and profile. It focuses on super yacht and private aviation design, looking closely at design from an aesthetic rather than technical perspective. As well as featuring award winning projects, from The International Yacht & Aviation Awards, hosted by Luxe et al, it also looks at innovation, the direction of design in the future and exciting technological advancements.
It does not actively compete with other yacht titles, so brings a new readership/client base to the yachting industry.

THE INTERNATIONAL HOTEL & PROPERTY AWARDS 2014
42 43
In 2010 we launched The International Design & Architecture Awards. The aim was to highlight new and innovative projects and expose talent, first. The Awards were unique in that instead of using a panel of judges, we relied on readers and industry professionals to judge the short listed schemes. This meant that for a period of four weeks, all schemes were on line and people could view projects, read briefs and vote for the winners in each category. We received just over 3,000 votes in four weeks and there were 66 short listed projects. The Awards evening was a great success with 90 designers celebrating at The Connaught, Mayfair.
Fast forward just 3 years to the 2013 Interior Design & Architecture Awards and you will find an Awards event that is not only one of the key events in the design calender, it is also a global event. In 2013 more than 250 design companies from 35 countries throughout the world entered The Awards. There were over 350 short listed projects and more than 32,000 people voted online over a 4 week period for the
winners. These are design et al readers and design industry professionals. That figure is even more impressive when you consider that it takes on average 21 minutes for someone to complete the voting process. This really is a focused, active and interested market. Over 400 people attended the Awards ceremony at the prestigious Hurlingham Club in London.
The story is similar for The International Yacht & Aviation Awards now in their 4th year and International Hotel & Property Awards also in their 4th year.
Shouldn’t you be part of this? The simplest way to be seen as a market leader in this sector, to be seen by and speak with people who run some of the leading design companies in the world, is to work with us as a sponsor.
Sponsorship is free of charge to design et al key customers.

Magazines & Books
All design et al magazines and books are available in hard copy format and also in a digital format. A recent survey suggested that our readers were increasingly using digital issues as an interactive working issue, they are ideal for sourcing ideas and products from and a great way to get straight to a suppliers website in one quick click.
All international subscriptions are digital, all voters in the recent awards receive a digital subscription to the magazine. Although we do not currently quote figures in rate cards for digital subscriptions as they in their infancy at present, it is currently in excess of 30,000 per issue.
Digital Newsletters & Weekly News
At design et al we know our readers are real fans of digital news, it is current, up to the minute and relevant. The downside to any magazine is publishing schedules, digital news letters allow us to change this and report on current news quickly.

Yacht & Aviation Industry News
The idea of space travel naturally brings to mind traditional rocket ships and the aerodynamic forms they command. However, the World View experience is not about speed, it’s about enjoying a once in a lifetime journey.
Priestmangoode wanted to create a stylish, elegant, luxurious environment for this unique experience. The key design feature is the
large panoramic windows which maximize the viewing space and will enable passengers to get the most out of this extraordinary journey.
World View has been shortlisted in the Commercial Aviation Design Concept category in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014

World View has been shortlisted in the Commercial Aviation Design Concept Category in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014.
Priestmangoode has designed a capsule to take passengers on balloon flights to the edge of space. They are working on the project with with the Paragon Space Development Corporation and are due to launch in three years’ time. World View will carry eight people to the edge of space bymeans of a helium balloon. The capsule will spend between two and six hours at the intended altitude of 30 kilometres, before returning to Earth.
Priestmangoode was brought in for their expertise designing luxury travel experiences. In their initial design meetings with the World View team, they talked about wanting to start the journey before dawn, so that as passengers rose up to space, they would be able to observe the sunrise, the curvature of the Earth, the thin blue atmosphere and the blackness of space. The windows they designed offer the maximum amount of viewing space for passengers, whilst meeting stringent safety
requirements. There is also a cupola viewing dome for unrestricted view of the Earth’s curvature.

The vessel was lengthened, with a new sheer line, hull colour, window pattern, internal layout, sun-deck, swim-deck and benefiting waterline. She now features a double height living area, a reconfigured and updated Owner’s additional cabin with 180-degree views

Floating Lodge by BMT Asia Pacific Ltd & Henry Ward Design in the Yacht Concept Design up to 30 metres category
Floating Lodge is from the Sea-Suite series of egg-shaped floating lodges, houseboats and beach cabins that marry eco-luxury with the spirit of yachting. The Sea-Suites, designed by Richard D Colwill & Henry Ward, offer a novel ‘water loving’ lifestyle concept, of which Floating Lodge provides an excellent example.
Crafted from a unique egg-shaped form reclaimed from a previous project, the modern structure features clean lines and organic curves. It had originally been developed as a composite radome for a new landmark cruise liner terminal in Hong Kong and represented a significant investment in design, development and use of material. In order to simplify installation & meet radar requirements, a ‘monocoque’ structure - light enough to be installed in one lift - was developed. The resulting form of the radome suggested both functional and aesthetic value for other uses.
Seeing the opportunity for a second life of this compelling shape, Richard D Colwill, Managing Director of BMT Asia Pacific who also led the radome delivery project, worked with designer Henry Ward to develop a series of egg-shaped waterborne and coastal structures. Floating Lodge, along with the other Sea-Suite design concepts stay true to BMT’s maritime pedigree. They have also been designed with the intention to minimize environmental footprint and installation costs, as well as provide a solution to maximize use of space afloat and ashore.
Sea-Suite’s uses may range from self-contained habitats - individual houseboats, lakeland lodges and beach cabins, to marina offices, art galleries and other novel commercial spaces. Based on elements reclaimed from a previous project and outfitted with eco-friendly design features, Sea-Suite is truly a sustainable concept that carries with it the spirit of the luxury yachting.
The Sea-Suite series also provide an elegant solution for land-based challenges. Given its flexible application, portability and fully customisable interiors, it can conveniently provide a number of coastal lifestyle options where onshore spaces and infrastructure are limited, expensive and/ or undesirable. www.bmtasiapacific.comwww.henryward-design.com

Giulini Ben Brahim Design and Engineering have been shortlisted for the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2014. Their project, Koot 54, will compete in the Yacht Interior Design category.
In Kuwait the word “Dewaniya” describes the place where men used to gather to discuss daily matters away from the family. In modern times this concept extended to welcome business meetings as well as family reunions. The scope of the 54’ project was to transfer this concept from the Bedouin tents to an intimate, relatively small power boat for day use. The Koot offers the possibility of enjoying a day on the water, main-taining the sensation of being at sea when outdoors as well as indoors.
A spacious aft deck leads to an unobstructed foredeck. The indoor areas, sustained by an adequate air conditioning system, will give comfort even in the most extreme hot climate of the summer season. The distinguishing feature of the Interior Design is an almost 20 sq.mt. salon which can accommodate 12 people at ease. The design of the seating arrangement allows also for an easy transformation to a luxury master cabin as needed for overnight journeys.
The 2 windows of 4 meters each in the salon allow the penetration of natural light as well as the enjoyment, from the inside, of an amazing view to the outside. Therefore life on a yacht, in this case, is really a complete outdoor and indoor package, for discrete business meetings as well as for intimate family gatherings.
