INFORMATION• Before the spread of internet, most communication networks were limited to

only allow communications between the stations and the computer, the network method was based on the computer model. Many research programs began to explore principles of networks between separate networks, leading to packet switching and Leonard Kleinrock at MIT and at UCLA. The research led to several packet-switched networks in the 60s and 70s, including the ARPANET . They were still disjointed separate networks, served only by limited gateways.
