ACADEMIC YEAR 2017-2018

DEPARTMENT INAGURATION FUNCTION -DATE: 11.7.2017

Department of VisCom had celebrated its inauguration function. Mrs. Thilagabama, a social

activist, poet and a writer was invited as chief guest. She shared her experience in writing and

motivated the students to read and to take part in the society through media.

GUEST LECTURE ON VISUAL LITERACY- DATE: 28.7.2017

Guest lecture on basics of drawing for the subject Visual Literacy was given by Mrs. Jaya, artist,

owner of a graphic designing firm from Madurai.

WORKSHOP ON ACTING- DATE: 2.8.2017 & 3.8.2017

To provide a better angle about communication through BODY LANGUAGE (ACTING), a two

days workshop have been conducted for the I year students.Mr. OLIVER NATHANEAL, actor,

costume designer from Chennai had enlighten the students mind about acting through various

activities.

TRIP TO KAZHUGU MALAI - DATE: 12.8.17

To improve their live experience on ART& VISUAL AESTHECTIS III year students was taken

to Kazhugumalai for an industrial visit. The purpose of the visit is analyzing the architectural and

aesthetical elements. The students were accompanied by Prof.J.P Josephine.

GUEST LECTURE ON ECONOMICS, SOCIETY & MEDIA - DATE: 29.8.17

One of the best guest lectures we had is a session by Mr. ANTONY, Director of the famous T.V

show NEEYA NAANA.

GUEST LECTURE ON PRINT JOURNALISM -DATE: 14.10.2017

MR. KUMARAGURUBARAN Journalist in THEE KATHIR daily newspaper explained the

students about the Print medium and journalism ethics to be followed in the print journalism.

GUEST LECTURE ON HISTORY OF THIRUNELVELI -DATE: 14.12.2017

MR. NARUMPOONATHAN writer and poet, president of progressive association of writers,

who wrote many books on Thirunelveligave an interesting session about the history of

Thirunelveli.

GUEST LECTURE ON MEDIA ETHICS-DATE: 9.1.2018

MR. KAVI PANDIAN, Announcer in ALL INDIA RADIO had given a session on media ethics

to the II and III year students to guide them.

FOTALENT -DATE: 15.2.2018 & 16.2.2018

FOTALENT is competition cum exhibition of photographs. Students of various department and

colleges participated in the competition. Students was given various themes and asked to submit

it to the department. photos were exhibited in the day scholar center.

WORKSHOP ON VIDEO EDITING -DATE: 19.2.2018

MR. SIVARAMAKRISHNAN News editor in Thanthi TV has a conducted a full day workshop

to the III year students. Students actively participated in the workshop.

WORKSHOP ON SCRIPT WRITING- DATE: 20.2.2018 & 21.2.2018

MR. BALASUBRAMANIYA SADAIYAPPAN founder of BALUMAHENDRA FILM

ACADEMY conducted two days workshop on various aspects of script writing.

BRIC VISIT -DATE -07-March-2018

‘Bharathi Raja International Film Institute’ Dean and Correspondent Mr. Manoj Kumar Son of

Bharathi Raja visited our department and had a valuable interactive session.

Conduct various department functions with various art competitions

ACADEMIC YEAR 2016-2017

This academic year of ours started with a small department gathering on 23rd june 2016, where

the second year and the third year students welcomed our new head of the department Rev Fr.

INFANT KINGSLEY SJ, teachers and the first years. It was good to hear both third and the

second years share their experience about the department as well as the college. This we

concluded this event with the fresher’s introducing themselves.

Our Viscom department was given an opportunity to conduct the first prayer service for this

academic year on 1th July 2016 along with the zoology department. This service was on smooth

and systematic, where our students took care of the decorations, bible reading and the offerings.

On the 13th of july 2016 we organized our department association function inaugurated by

Associate professor Dr. Bala Subramanian of Communication, Manonmaniam University,

Tinunelveli. We also witnessed the showcase of talents by our students on this day, several short

flims and photographs of our students were also screened.

On 26th June 2016, third year students as a part of their research subject attended the viva of

Dr.Chinnapan Professor of the department of visual communication Loyola college, Chennai at

Manonmanian university along with the head of the department, and Profession.

On 1st July 2016 we conducted a one day guest lecture as a part of radio production. The

resource person was Mr. Arivoomani an RJ of suryan FM Tirunelveli.

Five day (1st august-5th august 2016) Drama workshop as a part of performing arts subject was

conducted for the third year students. The drama trainer Mr.Azhakesan, a folklore expert and

social activist trained our students.

Two day painting workshop was conducted for the 1st year students. The resource person was

the renowned artist Mr. Kathir. On 6th august 2016 the students were taken to Kazhugumalai for

exploring minds and putting it into paper in the form of paintings.

One hour talk of Mr. Chella Durai, a folklore expert, about Villupattu was organized for the

second year students on 4th August 2016. On 7th August 2016 a photography seminar was

conducted for the second year students

Mr. Natarajana renowned wildlife photographer from Coimbatore was invited for the seminar.

On August 22nd 2016 as a part of research methodology paper for third year students,

Miss . Abitha, Research scholor from Manonmaniam University gave a very insightful lecture.

One day workshop on visual literacy was conducted on 23rd August 2016 for the second year

students. Mr. Sasi Maris an eminent painter and media person was invited for this workshop.

on 24th August 2016 as a part of human communication paper, the first year students were taken

to Karaiyar Kani dwelling for a field visit and interaction with tribal people.Historic writer Mr.

Muthalakurichi Kamaraj accompanied the gathering, Later about this visit, a report appeared in

the Hindu news paper.

An editing workshop was conducted on 30th August 2016 as a part of television production

paper for the third year students by the prominent editors Mr. Sridhar, Mr Aravind and Mr.

Sundar Raman from Sun TV and Vijay TV channel.

On 31 August 2016 a sound editor Mr. Britto was invited as a chief guest for sound editing

workshop as a part of radio production paper. On 1st September 2016 Mr. Narumpunathan a

Writer and film critic was invited for a new wave cinema lecture as a part of new wave subject.

From 2nd-3rd September 2016 for the I year students as a part of human communication subject

a two day workshop in Theatre was given by Mr. Meikandan, associate director and theatre

artist. The Social activist and politician Mr. Jarina gave an innovative speech regarding social

development. An eminent reporter, former reporter of Thinathanthi daily and reporter of Kaveri

channel gave a lecture on opportunities in journalism.

Diractor Siva Kumar's short film "Stamb"was screened in our Viscom Studio as part of Film

studies subject. On 16th February 2017 Photo exhibition was conducted. On 20th february 2017,

Department function was celebrated by conducting various completions. Students from colleges

of all over Tamilnadu participated in the function.

Our Students Kani Visit reported In Hindu daily. Our third year students Abish Vignesh social

awareness documentary on SAVE THAMIRABHARANI recognized by and reported in the

Hindu paper. The articles of our students Divine Raj Sankar, Abish Vignesh published in Hindu

news paper dated on 3rd March, 2017.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2015-2016

The inaugural function of the viscom association was held on 06.08.2015. Dr. A. Anto Kinsley,

co-ordinator, explained the objective of the association for the academic year 2015-2016. Dr. P

Govindaraju, professor and Head of the Department of Communication, addressed our students,

emphasizing the need for research in media field and he also inaugurated the photographic club

of the department.Viscom students actively participated in the INDECO 2015; they came up

Overall Third, bagged first prizes in Mime, Short Play, and Western Dance.Mr. E. Ra.

SundaraVandhiyaDevan , Tamil writer delivered a lecture on “Relationship between Journalism

and Anthropology” on 10.08.2015. Mr. Varghese Riju, Lecturer, Department of Media

Communication, Oman University, delivered a lecture on “Media laws – Freedom of

Expression” on 11.08.15. Mr. ArawinthYuvaraj, Screenplay writer delivered a lecture on

“Screenplay” on 12.08.15. Our First year students had a field visit to the Florence Swain School

of hearing impaired, Palyamkottai on 03.09.15, interacted with the students by means of non-

verbal communication. Dr. PremMuthu, Photographer, USA, delivered a lecture on “The art of

Photography and ethics to follow” on 09.10.15. Mr. Venkat Raman, Radio Jockey, Hello FM

delivered a lecture on “Producing for Radio” on 10.09.15. One day Fieldwork on “Kani Tribal

people” Pechiparaiwas arranged for our First year students on 30.09.2015 and students interacted

with the tribal people.Two day Photography Fieldwork was organised for the students on 1st and

2nd

October 2015, students visited Trivandrum Zoo and Padmanabha Palace. On 08th

and 09th

October 2015 our viscom students participated in ECHO FEST 15, an Intercollegiate

Competition organised at Noorul Islam College, Kanyakumari and bagged the overall

championship. From March 3rd

to 5th

our viscom students participated in “KarisalThiraiVizha

15” a State level media competition organised by the ManonmaniamSundarnar University. On

13th

February 2016 students participated in the festival contented at FX Engineering College and

bagged first in Mime and Admad.On 05.01.2016 our II year students participated in Cinema

Theatre Visit to PVT Cinemas, Nellai and had a practical session and interacted with the

projector technician.Mr. BalaSubramani, assistant director to BaluMahendrawas the resource

person for the two day workshop on “Screenplay Writing” on Feburary 24,25 2016, students

actively participated and interacted with him. Rev. Fr. DannisVaiz, Christian Music director

delivered a lecture on “Recording and Re-recording” on 07.03.2016.Our student Mr. Jesu

Antony Muthu II B.ScViscom participated and won the best short film Award in Photo day

competition 2016 organised by the Tamil Nadu Photographer Association and Gold vision for

his Short film “VizhithuEzhu”. And his Film also bagged the Special Jury Award in AERIS

2016, short film competition organised by the Karpagham Academy of Higher Education,

Coimbatore on 02.03.2016.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2014-2015

On 5th August 2014 Viscom department launched Viscom Department Lab Journal "INBOX"

and Website www.inboxepaper.com, Viscom Online Radio, and Released a painting "The

Fashion Lady" by Second year viscom students and the event was facilitated by Dr. Joesphe

Albert, Deptuy Prcinpal, Dr.Lourdusamy, coordinator, TQAC, Dr.SVL. Michael, HOD,

Economics.

08th August 2014, one day workshop on DSLR Photography by Sony and Maruthi Photo Store

at Viscom Studio. National Award Winner for Best Editing Mr. Sabu Joseph visited the

Department and delivered a lecture "Non Linear Editing and Films" on 26th September 2014.

One day Workshop on Radio Drama Script Writing where the Resource person was Writer

"Muthalakurichi Kamarasu" on 2nd September 2014. "Kadurai Aiyyanar" Documentary film was

released by Prof . N. Ramachandran Nair and Vice Principal Rev. Dr. T.Sahayaraj S.J, made by

III year Viscom Students on 27h September 2014 at Viscom Studio.

One day Field Visit of first year students to Swine Florence Deaf and Dumb school, Thirunelveli

on 01.11.2014. One Day Face Painting Workshop for I year Students by Prof. Vijai Rathnakumar

on 28.02. 2015. One day workshop on Current Trends in Journalism was conducted by Dhina

Malar Reporter Mr.Muppidathi & Mr. Arul Oli, the Reporter of Decon Chronicle on 09.10.2014.

Talk on WILD LIFE PHOTOGRAPHY by Mrs. Sridevi, an eminent wild life photographer on

09.03.2015. Special Film Analysis talk on ARANYAKANDAM by Mr. Yamunai Selvan and

Mr.Arun., the research scholars.

ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-2014

In the month of September, three day Creativity Workshop for all VisComers was taken up by

Prof. Alex Parimalam, and his team from Loyola VisCom., Chennai. A special media talk was

delivered by Rev. Dr. Joe Arun SJ, Executive Director of XIBA, on 'Media Skill Development'

Nija Nadaga Yeyakkam's KUGAI MARA VASIGAL (Fif kuthrpfs) - Drama viewing and

interaction with Actors & Director-was held in November 2014.

In Mid-December, a week-long Charlie Chaplin Film Festival was organized in the campus. On

December 17th, Vyabaramayanam (tpahghukhazk:), a Naveena Nadakam in Tamil was enacted

by Dr. Mu. Ramasamy & his team for our students and the public in the city.

Cinema Theatre Visit to Arunagiri Theatre and interaction with the theatre owner

Mr.Paramasivam on Film Distribution System was held in Janurary 2014. A Special Lecture on

Film Script Writing by Mrs.Deepa, the film script writer, was held on 21 Feb 2014."Visual

screening on Science & Technology Made Simple" was organized for school &college students

as part of Science and Technology Exhibition from 20th to 22nd February 2014. It received a

special prize.Painting Exhibition by Oviyar Chandru where our VisCom students' paintings,

tutored by Mr. Kathir, will become a part was held in March 2014.

Rev. Dr. Xavier Antony, S.J. took up Life Motivating Visual-Programme for 13 groups of Youth

located throughout the nearby three districts, in which the number of beneficiaries touches nearly

7,000.

Islam arts and Science College in OCT, 2013.

First in PHOTOGRAPHY in Feb. 2014

• Special Prize (Our College level) in State Level Science & Technology Exhibition for

Science made simple - a visual show.

• Sinthu Bharani, (II B. Sc. VisCom), participated in the panel discussion on SNS and

Youth today in the National Conference conducted by PG & Research department of

Commerce, St. Xavier's College, Palayamkottai, in Feb. 2014.

• Short Films/Documentaries were produced by II B. Sc. VisCom students-Siva,Ganesan,

Manickam, Sasiharan and Parthasarathi.
