Poster Presentation
Industrial Problem Solving Industrial Problem Solving is a set up which allows the students to assist industries in
solving the issues which occupy them on a regular basis. Companies come up with
problem statements which are then presented to the participants. Participants come up with
their own solution to these problems. The solutions which are the most appealing and
feasible for the company, is then rewarded accordingly.
MetallographyAs metallurgy students, a basic knowledge about microstructure is important. Along with composition, numerous other properties can also be obtained from microstructure. So this activity is conducted.
Poster Presentation Poster Presentation is designed for students to present their research work in a subtle
manner. Participants are expected to present the major details of their project work in the
form of a poster which will then be presented orally to a jury. The jury then judges the
students on the basis of their work and presentation.
Advances in materials For E-VehiclesAcross the countries automobile is one of the greatest polluter as emissions from million of
vehicles on the road add up. The solution to this is to have efficient vehicles with fewer
emissions with every kilometer travelled. Electric vehicles are the answer to this problem
but to make their performance comparable to conventional vehicles is a challenge. E-
vehicle efficiency depends mainly on its weight which is governed by proper selection of
material. Researchers are currently working to develop high strength to weight ratio
materials for automobile industries. Some of the alternatives adopted against conventional
steel are composites, non-ferrous alloys, foams, etc. Another key area in E-vehicles to be
studied is batteries. Studies are going on to improve the life of battery, to increase their
capacity, to have quick charging, reusability and environment friendly.
Various events as listed below are conducted during Meta Vista-2019. Major focus is given towards the analysis using metallurgical tools.
About Indian Institute of MetalsThe Indian Institute of Metals is a premier organization representing materials and
metallurgical engineers in India. Founded in 1946 by a group of metallurgists led by Dr.
D.P. Antia, IIM is the largest professional organization for metallurgist in India with over
10,000 members from R&D laboratories, academia and industry. The two main objectives
of IIM are: promoting and advancing the science and technology of metals and alloys and
protecting the interests of metallurgists and metallurgical industry.
Established in 1947, IIM, Pune Chapter is one of the oldest chapters
of IIM. The activities of Pune Chapter include organizing the topical seminars by leading
experts from India and abroad and specialized symposia, workshops and seminars. Pune
Chapter has been given the responsibility to organize the prestigious Dr. Dara P Antia
Memorial lecture every year. The inaugural lecture was delivered in 2006 by the then
Honorable President of India Dr. A P J Kalam. The 2nd Dara P Antia Lecture was delivered
by Prof. Ted Massalski
About College of Engineering Pune (COEP): College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) is an autonomous engineering college with an
affiliation to Savitribai Phule Pune University Pune, Maharashtra, India. Established in
1854, it is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia. COEP's precursor, The Poona
Engineering Class and Mechanical School was opened in July 1854.The school became
'Poona Civil Engineering College', and subsequently in the year 1911, the nomenclature
was changed to 'College of Engineering, Poona'. Today, COEP offers ten UG and
twentythree PG Programmes, and has more than 4000 students enrolled in its various
courses.
About Dept. of Metallurgy and MaterialsScience, COEPDepartment of Metallurgy and Materials Science was established in 1948 and is 4th oldest
in the entire country. It is one of the leaders amongst engineering institutions in India,
offering value based world class education, and constantly pursuing excellence. Some of
the core subjects that are part of the curriculum are Failure Analysis, Heat Treatment
Technology, Iron and Steel Making, Secondary Steel Making, Extractive Metallurgy,
Foundry Technology, Powder Metallurgy, Corrosion Science, Metal Working, Wire and
Sheet Metal Forming Technology, Material Characterization, Material Joining.
The department also send every student for Industrial Training at least for a month. The
department currently offers B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D.programmes. Some of the
prominent characterization facilities such as Field Emission -Scanning Electron
Microscope, Potentiostat / Impedance Analyser Alternate Immersion Testing,
Universal Testing Machine, BET surface area analyser, Image Analyzer With Inverted
Metallurgical Microscope, Stereo- Microscope, Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, Electro
Chemical Analysis Apparatus, Vacuum Emission Spectroscopy, various Hardness
Testers, Pin-On-Disc Wear Test, etc are available in the department. The active support of
eminent members of alumni in India and abroad has helped the department in training the
students in state of the art technology.
Asociations and SponsorsBeing an event aimed at bringing together all facets of the metallurgical world, we
welcome associates from a wide variety of organizations and aid them in reaching out to
the metallurgical fraternity.
The sponsorship for this event will be available at three levels:
Sponsors-50000
Co-sponsors-30000
Event sponsors-25000
Benefits For Sponsor Publicity of the organisation on the Indian Institute of Metals Pune Chapter website.
Through this event, a student- industry interaction is established. These are the very
students who may act as brand ambassador for the products of the industry. Once the
students enter in corporate world they will help in publishing and marketing of the
product.
Associating industries will be provided with display area comprising of a table to exhibit
their products and services.
The organisation name will be displayed on banners throughout the event location.
