OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVES Day one will focus on Sleep Disordered Breathing with lectures from the medical perspective and from the dental perspective. Day two will consist of a clinical session on oral appliance therapy as it applies to obstructive sleep apnea and lectures focusing on sleep bruxism, the relationship of sleep to temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), and sleep bruxism and the relationship between sleep and pain. After participating in this activity, the participants should be better able to: Understand the role of the dentist in the diagnosis and management of sleep disordered breathing from a medical perspective. Understand the impact of prescribing various medications on normal sleep function. Understand current concepts related to sleep bruxism. Understand the role of the dentist in the management of obstructive sleep apnea with emphasis on the fabrication of oral appliances. Understand the relationship between sleep bruxism, sleep disordered breathing and TMDs. Understand the bidirectional relationship between sleep and pain. He lectures internationally and directs sleep education at the Pankey Institute. He was in leadership at AADSM and was Chair of the 2010 ADA Annual Session. Since 2014 he has been Editor-in-Chief of Dental Sleep Practice Magazine. He co-founded Premier Sleep in Bellevue, Washington, a practice devoted to helping people breathe better and sleep better. Supat Thammasitboon, MD is the Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine and Director of the Sleep Center at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at Tulane University, where he is the Program Director of Sleep Medicine Fellowship Training Program. He completed fellowship training in Pulmonary & Critical Care at Tulane University and Sleep Medicine at UT Southwestern. He is the Board of Director of Louisiana Academy of Sleep Medicine.
