Gridded Membrane FiltersThese gridded membrane filters are made of cellulose nitrate—a material which ensures effective retention with high flow rates and optimal colony growth.

Sterile Filters are individually packed to avoid the possibility of contamination. These filters conform to EPA and GLP, having filter identification and lot number printed on each individual envelope. The included certificate documents quality assurance tests and compliance of the 0.45 µm membrane filter with ISO 7704.

Nonsterile Filters are not individually packed. They are used for particle testing, microscopy, and microbiology.

Colony count is the quantitative determination of microorganisms present in a sample. The quantity can represent either the total bioburden or the detection and quantification of specific microorganisms. The counts are expressed in colony-forming units per 1 mL sample volume (CFU/mL).A membrane filter of the appropriate pore size is placed in a filter holder, and the sample is then filtered. In this process microorganisms in the test sample are retained on the filter surface by the screening action of the membrane filter. For a simple evaluation of the results, the grid divides the filtration area into 130 squares, each measuring 3.3 x 3.1 mm.

Fireflies and food…Luciferase is an enzyme derived from fireflies that is highly sensitive to the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) present in food residues and in all bacteria, yeast, and mold cells. Bioluminescence tests use luciferase to activate the ATP in samples collected using a specialized swab. The swab emits light in proportion to the amount of ATP in the sample. A luminometer measures that light output, converts it to a numeric value, then stores and displays the results.

HY-RiSE® Rapid Hygiene Test KitFor assessing the cleanliness of surfaces and CIP rinse waterl This easy-to-use, instrument-free kit includes 50 individually wrapped test strips.l Ideal for dry surface testing, hand testing and CIP rinse water testing used in

the food, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries. l Use NAD as bioindicator which provides ATP sensitivity but is more cost effective.Application is extremely simple. For dry, smooth surfaces and hand testing, add one drop of wetting solution to the small pad on the end of the strip. For liquid testing, swipe the testing area with the wetted pad side; no need for reagent. To test the CIP rinse water, dip the padded end into the sample and then add substrate solution immediately followed by one drop of enzyme solution. After four to five minutes of reaction, any visible discoloration means that there are residues present and further cleaning is necessary.

Hygiene Monitoring SwabCheck KitsMonitor and control microbiological contamination of surface areas in the food industryl Excellent for production plants and laboratoriesl Qualitative and semi-quantitative hygiene controll Sterile packed—ready for immediate use

These kits are very easy to use! The surface is wiped with a cellulose swab and any bacteria collected is transferred into a tube containing a special medium with indicator dye and then incubated. Even a single bacterium is sufficient to cause a color change meaning that SwabChecks are about 1000 times more sensitive than the conventional ATP method. This accuracy is particularly important in the food industry. With this simple method, it is possible to identify microorganisms such as Listeria monocytogenes which must not be present at any concentration in food or beverages.

Listeria SwabCheck KitDesigned to be used alongside traditional selective methods to improve the quality system and minimize the risk of Listeria contamination. This simple-to-use diagnostic test can be applied anywhere in the environment and on foodstuffs where the presence of Listeria species would be critical. The test works on an enhanced Esculin media formulation: the hydrolysis of Esculin produces in a distinctive black/brown precipitate. Each kit includes a swab and culture medium.

E. coli SwabCheck KitUsed for the detection of E. coli on surfaces. The visual indicator of fluorescence using a long-wave UV light source confirms the presence of E. coli, and any further confirmation is not required. MUG detects anaerogenic strains that may not be detected in a conventional procedure. This kit detects the existence of ß-glucuronidase, possessed by most E. coli and a few strains of Salmonella, Shigella, and Yersinia. The presence of E. coli is detected by the appearance of fluorescence throughout the tube. Each kit includes a swab and culture medium.

Yeast and Mold SwabCheck KitUsed for the enumeration of yeast and molds on surfaces in accordance with HACCP guidelines. M-Green yeast and mold is an improved modification of the liquid medium, m-yeast and mold broth, and was developed to improve efficiency of detection and enumeration of fungi in sugar-based drinks using the membrane filtration method. The result is very easy to interpret: green opaque colonies against a yellow background are indicative of the growth of yeast. Mold colonies are green and filamentous. Each kit includes swabs and culture medium, packaged with a membrane device, providing a quantitative result.
