Galvanised steel frames act as formers for the chamber, maintaining the clear opening size specified. The frames provideheight and tilt adjustment at surface level. For added security,Buildbase Civils & Lintels supply the universal frame locked as stan-dard. For installations in areas of block or tactile paving, framesare available with a recessed inner tray and a lowered edge thatcan be paved up to, avoiding cuts. A dropped frame is also avail-able for use with a Buildbase Centurion composite cover in pavedareas.

CENTURION FRAMES

All covers and frames must be supported on the concrete surround or on a concrete bedding mortar of sufficient thickness.

Centurion Signal Pole Box

Specification Clause

The pole box, supplied by Buildbase Civils & Lintels shall be rotationally moulded as a one-piece unit and comply with highways installation directive for a 450mm minimum clearancecover over ducting. The pole Box shall be formed with pre-trepanned knockout areas to accept either 63mm or 110mmouter diameter duct and must be installed prior to the pole fixing in accordance with the manufacturers written instructions.

The Pole Box incorporates the benefits and characteristics of theCenturion Access Chamber. As with the chambers, the Pole Boxmaintains its market position as a well tried and tested unit withspecific design requirements to satisfy the highway directive forcover clearance over ducting laid in footpaths.

The nature of the product and the installation process allows civilengineering work to be carried out ahead of pole installation(installation instructions available). Two sizes are available to cover the majority of requirements and to ensure compatibility with the Centurion Access System.

Centurion Pole Housing Unit

To prevent pole rotation caused by wind or natural forces duringservice, the poles are secured in position at surface level withglued locating shims that fit flush with the unit surface. This successful method of securing the pole has proven to be atime saving solution to other labour intensified methods.

The unit incorporates a unique adjustable raising section whichallows the installer to reinstate around the pole leaving an aesthetically pleasing appearance and allowing easy access toinstall and remove poles as required. due to the material composition of the raising section, it will withstand hot asphalt reinstatement without detriment to performance.

Specification Clause

The Pole Housing Unit, supplied by buildbase Civils & Lintels shallbe rotationally moulded as a one piece unit and recessed toaccommodate a 115mm diameter pole secured at surface levelwith glued shims to prevent rotational movement.

Industry feedback has been considered in the design of theCenturion Pole Housing Unit. It has been specifically developed toassist in the installation of traffic signal poles and the removal/reinstatement of damaged poles.

The Centurion Pole Housing Unit allows all civil engineering worksto be carried out prior to pole installation, therefore improving continuity of operation and reducing labour costs and down time.

The Pole Housing Unit and the adjustable raising section isdesigned to accommodate 115mm diameter poles with variable planting depths ranging from 650mm to 700mm.

Flex-e-Duct

Flex-e-Duct is an extremely flexible product supplied in the form of acoil with a ribbed outer profile and smooth inner bore. The advantage of Flex-e-Duct is that it can be used in confinedareas and can be shaped around other services or to follow anuneven trench. it does not require any bends or adaptors andtherefore speeds up the installation process. The coils are availablein diameters ranging from 40mm to 160mm and are suppliedcomplete with draw cord.

Centurion Chambers

Chambers should be surrounded with 150mm of C15 (ST3) concrete and supported on a simple concrete footing approximately150mm thick with a soakaway of 6mm clean stone, if required.

(A) To maintain a clear opening and prevent distortion, the centurion frame must be positioned inside the top box sectionwhen the concrete is poured. The frame must be bedded on mortaror the concrete surround.(B) The circular duct apertures in the chamber for duct entry areeasily achieved by the unique pre-trepanned 'knockout' cast in tothe box side walls. A hammer blow at the centre of each 'knock-out' will leave either a 63mm or 110mm diameter hole.

(C) If chambers require a section cutting out to install around existing services etc., double or triple units must be used as these, unlike single units, will not experience and deformation or loss ofintegrity at pavement level.

(D) All covers and frames must be supported on the concrete surround or on a concrete bedding mortar of sufficient thickness.

Centurion Pole Box

Boxes must be installed in a concrete surround as described in theCenturion Access Chamber Guide installation guide.

The following must also be taken into consideration:

(A) To ensure traffic signal poles and pole box are both verticaland secure, they must be installed together and surrounded by concrete.

(B) In the event where poles are to be installed, either for retro fitsor post civil work applications, specific guidance from the salesand technical team is essential.

(C) Poles should be secured with concrete at pavement level thatwill be approximately 150mm deep. It is possible to trim the baseoff the pole sleeve if so desired for extra security.

(D) Buildbase Civils & Lintels manufacture a locking mechanism toprevent axial rotation in extreme conditions (sea fronts etc). Please contact technical department.

Centurion Pole Housing Unit

This unit provides for a single pole planting depth of700mm/650mm. Pole depth can be reduced by adding therequired amount of clean stone into the base of the sleeve unitprior to installation of the pole.

Prepare a true and level concrete base using a lean mix beddingof concrete or grout 25mm in depth.

Remove protective cap and lid surround from pole housing.

Remove locking shims from housing profile.

Signal pole can be pre-trepanned with draw cord prior to installation if required.

Insert signal pole into housing with cable entry slot aligned to poleshoe. Ensure surface of pole is clean and grease free. Apply solvent cement to location surface of both locking shims.

Tap locking shims back into seating profile making sure both shimsare fully home and good contact with pole surface is achieved.

Allow solvent to set for 15 minutes before applying any torque tothe pole.

Remove any ingress from lid housing and replace lid surround tobase of signal pole.

Important when installed without a signal pole, insert a short cutlength of pole into housing to check verticality during construction. On completion, remove cap.
