Recognized as one of Asia’s most important military and internal security events, Defense &

2015 marks the historic union of ten ASEAN nations to form the ASEAN Community (AC). In keeping with the event ASEAN is now fully embarked on military modernization, making it the fastest-growing region for military spending on the planet. The powerful combination of these ten ASEAN nations is a unique development and presents a special window of opportunity for military manufacturers.

In 2015, ASEAN defense spending will surpass that of Europe for the first time in over half a millennium. By comparison Asian countries outside ASEAN have only accelerated their military modernization in the last few years.

A decade ago, Asian nations (excluding Australia and New Zealand) were spending $100 billion less on their militaries than the 26 European countries in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The International Institute for Strategic Studies pegged Asian defense spending last year at $287 billion - an 8.6 percent annual growth rate - while European spending declined to $262 billion, an average 3.6 annual drop.

Today no country can take security for granted. And with the increasing number of airports in the region the need to adopt more modern security infrastructure is urgent.

Maritime ports and services also present great opportunities. The current seaport security market in ASEAN is USD 1.97 billion but is expected to exceed 4 billion by 2015. Coast guard agencies are seeking a variety of technologies such as Vessel Traffic Monitoring Systems, Automatic and Long Range Identification Systems and Maritime Patrol aircraft.

Expenditure in seaport security is projected to remain strong, rising by 110% to USD 15.8 billion in 2015. Security now includes container screening devices, high energy X-ray systems and automated explosive detectors. The maritime security market is presently USD 3.12 billion and will rise to USD 6 billion by 2015.

With rapid economic development and geo-political instability in the region member states are now substantially increasing their defense spending which will make Defense & Security 2015 of even greater significance. Now the leading Tri-Service Asian Defense & Security Exhibition, Conference and Networking Event, the 2015 show will be one of the biggest and most important Defense & Security exhibitions ever held in the region.

ASEAN is now fully embarked on militarymodernization and is the fastest-growing region

for military spending in the world.
