"THe Deep Run Debate Club will have thier first meeting on Wednesday after school in room
228. Join us for a lively debate on the race for the presidency between the Democrat Barrack
Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney. We will be debating the policies of
each candidate, so please join us for a highly spirited debate. Students aren't required to do
any prior research before attending.The meeting will be from 4PM to 5:30, and students
will also be able to apply for leadership positions in the debate team as well."
Get excited for Spririt Week, starting this Monday. Here's the
schedule: 'Merica Monday, Hawaiian Tuesday, Denim
Wednesday, Western Thursday, and DRHS Friday. SCA will
award five students with prizes for best costume during the pep
rally next Friday!
Attention Spanish club members. It's t-shirt time! Get your spanish club t-shirts while you can. These
long sleeved beauties are only $12.00 and they won't last long. All checks must be made out to Deep Run High School and all
cash must be exact change. See Mrs. Lambert in room 226 for
details.
This announcement is for anyone in the Best Buddies club. The first party for the Best Buddies Club will be on October 31st and will be for all grade levels. After the October party we will be back to
the original schedule. If you have any questions please see Karlin
Stuckey or Mr. Kern.
Attention Art Club Members! If you signed up to help with the float, don't forget to come! Our work days are: the 17th after
school, the 18th during extended study, the 23rd, 24th and 25th
during extended study and after school. Check the calender if you forgot what days you signed up

Seniors- Don't forget to check the Scholarship section of the
Deep Run web page for scholarship opportunities. The Scholarship section is
located in the School Counseling section. 9 new scholarship links have been
added last week!
The ACADEMIC AWARDS ASSEMBLY will be celebrated this year on Friday, November 9th, at
10am in the Gym. Any sophomore, junior or senior who earned straight Aís, perfect attendance or a perfect SOL score from last year will be honored. Parents of award recipients are welcome to attend. On Thursday, Oct. 4th, a list of award recipients was posted outside of the School Counseling Office. You have until Friday, October 26th to let the counseling office know if your name is missing. Congratulations to all award recipients and more details later about
practice.
WILDCATS, STRAP IN! The cheerleading squad will be selling
Deep Run rollercoaster long-sleeved tshirts. The cost is $20
dollars and we will be selling from 8:30 until 8:50 every morning this
week AND next week.You can also buy them during extended study in Ms. Slota's room, 220.
Do you remember Let Go Your Legos? From September 17th
through November 2nd, Blue Cheese is holding our annual drive for all students to donate their Legos or
Duplos. There is a donation box by the Main Office and in Room 208. Members of NHS, SNHS, and Key
Club can earn points by dropping off your Legos in your sponsorís room.
FCCLA & FEA Meeting Dates are during extended study in Mrs. Roger's FCS

be visiting during lunch on Thursday,
Nov. 1st.
COLLEGE & CAREER NIGHT will be held at Glen Allen High
School on Tuesday, October 30, 6:30-8:00pm. Over 100 college representatives from all over the
country will be there and will discuss college life, academic programs and the admissions
process. All interested students are invited to attend.
Students, plan to get your questions about your future
answered next week at Henrico Countyís College and Career
Night. Representatives from over 150 colleges and/or businesses
will be on hand at Glen Allen High School next Tuesday,
October 30th from 6:30-8:00 pm

Attention Seniors: Are you a history buff? Do you enjoy politic? Is government or

scholarship opportunities from Washington Crossing
Foundation. Applications are due January 15th.
A representative from the UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND will be visiting on Thursday, October 25th during
lunch.
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Program is offering a $1,000
scholarship to students who have a strong commitment to community
service, academics and demonstrated leadership.
Applications are available on the Scholarship Section of the the
School Counseling link on the Deep Run web page. Applications are due
to Mrs. Kaplan by November 8th
RADFORD UNIVERSITY will be hosting an ON-SITE APPLICATION REVIEW on Friday, November 30th at 11:30am in the Career
Center located in school counseling. In order to be considered you must: 1. Sign up in the
counseling office. 2.Submit an application for admission (along with the application fee) to Radford by Nov. 1st. 3. Have your SAT/ACT
score sent through collegeboard.com/actstudent.org to Radford. 4.Request your transcript early enough for
Radford to receive it by November 1st. To sign up and for more information come by the school
counseling office.
Seniors- There will no longer be a Scholarship Drawer in School Counseling. All Scholarship Applications received by School Counseling, will be scanned and available on the Deep Run Web Page
under a Scholarship Section on the School Counseling link. Please follow the
directions on the cover sheet of each application for completing and sending
the application.
The October issue of the Sentinel will be distributed today in Extended Study.
Adam Hale is not wearing a shirt on page 9. Please
refrain from mobbing your extended study teacher to
receive a copy.
Congratulations to the new Honor Council Members: 11th grade Brandon von
Kannewuff, Michael Salomon, Max Dash, Gabby Levet, and Jessie Hillis. 10th
Grade- Joseph Gates, Danniil Budanov, Sydney Lake, Paige Koetter, and Claire Harper. There will be a meeting for all
members on Ocotber 30th in Room 241 during Extended Study. See Mrs.
Whitfield if you need a pass.
The SCA will sell Homecoming Tickets for $15 this week. Tickets will be on sale in the
Commons before school (8:15-8:45am) and during all lunches. Tickets will not be sold at the
door of the dance, so please purchase your tickets in advance! We will sell tickets starting this Friday, 10/19 until next Friday, 10/26. If you would like to bring a guest from another school, but must complete the guest registration form before purchasing your tickets. As a reminder, the dance is next Saturday, Oct. 27th from 8-
11pm in the Commons/Gym. Even though Homecoming's theme is Wild West, the attire for Homecoming is semi-formal. See Mrs. Berry or
Mrs Perego for more information!
The Deep Run Homecoming Parade is set for next Friday,
October 26th! The parade starts at 5:30pm from the
Shady Grove YMCA and ends at the DRHS football stadium. If you are not in the parade, remember to come out and
support your school!
Attention Juniors: The VA. Aerospace Science & Technology Scholars is a
NASA based program for students who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math. VASTS is an interactive online learning course that
culminates in a 1 week residential summer academy at NASA Langley
Research Center for those who qualify. Please come by school counseling if you
would like more information about this program. Application deadline is Nov. 2nd.
