DECEMBER ISSUE 2018

There's a song in the musical West Side Story called "Something's

Coming and It's Going to be Good!" That's a good statement of the

Advent mood.

Advent emphasizes the sense of expectant waiting for something

good to happen -- waiting for Someone special to come from God.

The people of Israel had heard God's promise that a Savior would

come, and, as recorded in the Old Testament, waited through some

of the darkest hours of their nation's history for the fulfillment of that

promise.

Christians know that God's promise was fulfilled by the coming of

Jesus. We celebrate that fulfillment at Christmas, but Advent invites us

to experience the sense of anticipation that precedes Christ's coming.

Advent also has a personal aspect. Perhaps some of us have not had

the Christmas experience of having Jesus born in the manger of our

hearts. We are still in Advent, hoping something good will yet come,

but fearing that it will not.

Thus, Advent is a time to make our hearts ready to receive Christ. He's

coming to us and that is GOOD!

I encourage you to join us this happy season. Here is a list of

messages:

November 25-“God Decorates for Christmas”

December 2-Special Service @ 10am (Hanging of the Greens) “The

Christmas Traveler”

December 9-“What Does the Bible Teach about Sexual Ethics”

December 16-“Wonderful Light” Jesus is the light who overcomes

Nursery Notes

Library News

I always find something interesting in our library as I just stand

and look at all the different topics and authors we have.

Our advent time starts December 2 and ends December 24.

A time to study the birth of Jesus and where our life is .

We have a book on “What Would Jesus do.” We also have a

book called “What Would the Bible Say”. Billy Graham wrote

a book called “Answers to Life’s Problems”

Also for kids we have a Bible Story Book for Kids. If you need a

book for your child to look at during church feel free to come

in.

Marlene Meitl, Church Librarian

What a joy it has been to spend time with the

children of the church! I continue to offer the

nursery between services for preschool age

and younger so parents can attend Bible

study and also during the 10:30 service. I

average 4 kids a Sunday; sometimes more, sometimes less.

I've rearranged the area to better serve the

children but there is one thing missing, a

glider! If you have a gently used or new glider

that you would like to donate to the nursery

we would welcome it! A rocking chair would

do damage to little fingers but a glider would

allow us a place to read stories and comfort

sleepy babes! Please contact the church

office if you have a glider to donate.

Thank you! Kelli Jensen

A Note from the UMW President

I would like to thank our church family for all your love and

loyalty through all the process of moving to our new store. If it

wouldn’t have been for the church and Pastor Jeff’s support,

we would still be in the MNB basement! It’s hard to believe

that it has been a year since we moved and how much has

God blessed our ministry. We have tripled the money in a year

and after helping all our missions (and also new ones), we still

had $20,000 to help the church pay for the repair of the

Helping Hand store roof! We are so GRATEFUL to God that has

blessed us beyond measure!

This is where our money has gone: McCook pantry,Community

Supper, CASA, Salvation Army, Domestic Abuse, Share the

Heat, The Saving Place, Habitat for Humanity, Family

Resources, ABC Pregnancy Center, Meals on Wheels, Camp

Comeca, Adopt-A-Chaplain, Orphan Grain Train, NUMB ride,

Nebraska Children’s Home Society, Red Willow Ministerial

Assn., True Impacts (projects in Uganda), Community Hospital

Foundation, L2 for Kids, Heifer International, Great West District

Mission Giving, Epworth Village, U.M.C.O.R., Camp Norwesca,

McCurdy Mission NM, Lydia Patterson Mission TX, Red Bird

Mission KY, Released and Restored, Hispanic Ministry, Camp

Scholarships for our children, Little Blessings Pre-School and

Scholarships, Faith Weavers, MUMC Foundation (Seminary

Students) and Methodist Endowment Fund.

I have been so honored to be UMW president for two years. It

has been a humbling experience to see the work of the Holy

Spirit in our lives. Our success has been principally for working

together as one family, as sisters in Christ! God bless you and

all the hardworking UMW! Please welcome Marge Daniel who

will be our president for 2019.

Education Committee

The Education Committee would like to thank everyone

for a successful Trunk or Treat!

We are estimating over 400 children that passed through

the parking lot! We had over 20 "trunks" along with

numerous others that participated at each trunk. We

served over 4 roasters of soup and had over 150 children

play games. It was a wonderful evening witnessing God's

children, young and old, fellowshipping together outside

the walls of the church. We are looking forward to next

year!
