Roddy Maddocks is the son of a British Diplomat which moving around the world when he was young. We moved to Belgium, Hong Kong, Canada then finally France. From when I was 11 years old I went to a boarding school in the UK and went on to study engineering at university. To try and find a purpose I got heavily involved with the sub aqua diving club. This was exciting and it gave me an escape from sorting out what I was really aiming to do with my life. All this extreme diving activity had an effect on my health and I consulted a doctor. Dr Cox could tell that in addition to some physical issues. I was spiritually searching for something to fill the vacuum in my life and he invited

me to an FGBMFI dinner meetings. Whilst part of me knew that it was some-thing I wanted more of, another part of me was strongly resistant to the idea of committing to a Christian belief. At an FGBMFI breakfast meeting in 1992 I asked Jesus into my life by say-ing the sinner’s prayer. Over the years since asking Jesus into my life, I haven’t always been a good Christian but always, God has, through his grace, given me forgiveness when I have repented of my sins. Roddy is a Technical Specialist within the Information Systems Dept at Oxfam and is a member of the Aylesbury Chapter of BMF.
