Celebrating Advent!

The Second Week of Advent As we move through this season of advent we focus on not only the birth of Jesus, but also His second coming. Be awake, be ready! Prayer for the lighting of the first two candles of the advent wreath: God of power and mercy open our hearts in welcome. Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy so that we may share His wisdom and become one with Him when He comes in glory, for He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Advent wreaths are available in our parish gift shop.

December 8 through 14—the 2nd week of Advent • Make the Sundays of Advent special. Prepare a

special meal that is celebrated with family and friends. During this gathering is a great time to light the advent wreath.

• Celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 or 9 by praying the rosary.

• Take an opportunity to make a good confession to prepare your heart for the joy of Christmas. (Individual confession times are listed on page 3.)

• December 12 we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Search Catholic online sites to learn more about the holy encounter that is the basis of this feast.

• Venturing out for a walk in this winter wonderland? Try a silent walk—no headphones, no conversation. Just a time to appreciate the beauty of nature and pray as you walk.

• Have you chosen a service project for this holy season yet? Sponsor a family through St. Tim’s and provide food and gifts, or volunteer with Feed My Starving Children, or at Mary’s Place.

• Is there someone in your life who is hurting this Christmas? Offer to go with them to our Blue Christmas service on December 15.

• Read Matthew 11:2-11 to prepare for next Sunday’s Mass.

Question of the Week Our Need to Change

This is the one [John the Baptist] of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” (Matthew 3:3) • Isaiah 11:1–10 - The rule of Emmanuel • Romans 15:4–9 - Prayer of encouragement • Matthew 3:1–12 - John the Baptist Adults: What do you need to change so that others can learn from watching you that Christ walks among us? Kids: What could you do so that others will see in you what it means to follow Jesus? Cover photo by Libby Huebner
