Announcements Today

1. FIRST Reading: membership transfers IN: Michael and Omolara Olawoore from Malton SDA Church.

2. In an effort to be more inclusive, and to allow for greater involvement in the weekly Worship Service, members are invited to volunteer for Scripture Reading, Intercessory Prayer, Praise Singing/Song Service, and Special Music for a 6-week period beginning in January. The sign-up sheet is on the ledge by the A/V booth, to facilitate the transition, your response today is greatly appreciated.

3. Sabbath School Council meeting will take place TODAY after church. All superintendents and regular teachers are invited to participate in planning for the next quarterly experience.

4. TODAY we are finalizing order on the Devotionals! Please look at the books available at the table in the foyer and make your orders. Orders will be placed to receive the books by the beginning of the year.

Later Events

5. Bowling at Fleetway is planned for Sat, Dec. 29th at 7 PM. Please sign the BOWLING SHEET on the table in the foyer to get the special price just for our church group.

6. New Year Prayer meeting is planned for December 31. The fellowship will begin at the potluck table at 6:30 pm. The time of Thanksgivings, Praise and Prayer will commence at the Sanctuary at 8 pm, followed by more social fellowship.

7. Your opportunity to serve! We are feeding the homeless, volunteering at the Ark Aid on Dundas Street on the New Year’s Eve, December 31. The team needs 12 volunteers. The sign-up sheet is in the foyer. We will meet at 6 pm to prepare. Dinner begins at 7 pm and ends at 8 pm. Volunteers will be able to join the church after for the prayer and fellowship.

8. The Ingersoll Arena for is rented by Boskovic family on Thursday, January 3rd 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30. All youth are welcome to come skating. There will be a potluck lunch at Boskovic place afterwards, and IF there's snow, Amish neighbours will give a sleighride. NOTE: NO PICTURES are allowed of Amish friends. The cost for skating will be $3 per person. Attending, please bring something to contribute to the potluck.

9. The NEW BOARD will meet for planning 2013 on Monday, January 7. It will be not a regular “paper filled” meeting, but a fellowship potluck meal at 6 pm, followed by sharing plans by all ministries and scheduling for greater cooperation between ministries. Meeting will take place at our church hall. We invite all ministry leaders to meet with their teams over the next 3 weeks.

10. Pastor Alex Golovenko is on a study leave to complete his dissertation from until January 7, 2013. Please pray for him to be guided in writing the final DMin chapter.

This year we are blessed with exceeding our planned Budget for local ministries. We give praise to God for moving all our donors to participate in this growth. The only account that is under what was expected is the Church School.We promised a support of $1000 monthly. Yet at the end of 11 month only $8,869 was received for the School. In 2011 the School received $11,609 from $12,000 promised. In 2010 only $10,559. The School needs your support.

Season of Advent This is the final weekend of liturgical season called Advent. Our

name “Adventist” is derived from this root. What does it mean to us? Yesterday, December 21, 2012, many expected “the end of the

world.” Some say that as many as 12% of USA population expected that something would happen. We may laugh at the silliness of believing in such superstitious predictions. But, just remember the great Disappointment of 1844, when faithful believers were expecting the end of the world. To them, Millerite followers, it meant the return of Jesus in Glory. A friend of minie posted on the FB “we should be more sympathetic with folk thinking the world will end ...considering our “Great Disappointment.” Hmmmm. You have not thought it that way? Have you?

BBC reported the day before 21/12/12 that Seventh-day Adventists predicted the end of the world in 1874. Someone should have called in with correction “not us, the Jehovah’s Witnesses!” But, let’s face it (and I am quoting now Walla Walla University pastor Alex Bryant) “Adventism was not born as a reform movement, or as a temperance movement, not as a theological innovation, not because of a unique private prophetic revelation. Adventism was born out of a wrong calculation about the Second Coming of Christ, fueled by an intense, emotional, highly personal, fervent desire to be with Jesus.”

We had survived yet another failed prediction. Are you settled that the world will go on...and on...and on. Or are you still looking for the Day of the Lord, when the desire of all ages will be fulfilled, as Jesus will come in Glory, one day, to end the world as we know it?

This year we did not do an evangelistic series, not wanting to manipulate peoples’ fears of 21/12/12. The world did not end. Will you continue sharing your faith, and telling your friends that things will not always be like they are?

This Advent season let us remember the reason – Jesus came the first time to let people know Who God is, to remind people that we belong to Him, and that we are invited to the New World. To celebrate Christmas is to remember that it was a historical confirmation that this world will end, even elements will dissolve. And then Christ will create the New Heaven, the New Earth without end.

Do you know Jesus? Not the decorative babe in the manger, but the Soon Coming King of the Universe?
