Published by Lincoln Housing Authority | 402-434-5500 | www.L-Housing.com DECEMBER 2019 Hang around Mahoney Manor and it won᾿t be long before you meet Barb Harpham. She’s been zealously involved with the senior apartment com- plex’s activities since moving there in January 2005. Harpham initially joined the rummage sales committee and has served as chairperson for the last 13 years. She now supervises more than 40 residents and their 200 hours of volunteer service, putting on the twice-a-year sale. Under her leadership, the sales have become more successful and have provided funding for resident projects and activities. Harpham was elected to Resident Council as floor representative and elected president in 2008. She was unanimously re-elected for 10 years until she resigned due to health reasons, but she still serves as floor representative, helping to fundraise and plan activities. She also serves on the Events Committee and Kitchen Crew, helping plan, execute and clean up after activities — all with a smile. As part of Mahoney᾿s emergency response sys- tem, Harpham performs daily door checks and assists with resident welfare checks when appropriate. She was appointed by Lincoln Housing Authority as Key Keeper in 2006, wherein she assists with resident lockouts and emergency responses. Her nursing background proves valuable in emergency situations as she demonstrates patience, kindness and respect. At a Nov. 7 luncheon, Harpham was awarded the Jerry Joyce Caring Heart Award from Legacy Retirement Communities and KFOR. The Living Legacy Awards are giv - en in memory of Jerry Joyce, founder of Legacy Retirement Communities, to honor volunteer heroes who exhibit the same kind of quiet, giving spirit that Joyce had shown to others in his life. Harpham chose to give her $1,000 award to LHA to help with the cost of a new van, which provides transportation for Mahoney Manor, Burke Plaza and Crossroads House residents to attend activities and go shopping. “It᾿s immeasurable,” Harpham said. “Without a From left, Legacy Terrace Executive Director John Kopetzky, Mahoney Manor Resident Services Specialist Linda Hecht, for- mer LHA Tenant Services Manager Doug Marthaler, Award Recipient Barb Harpham, Legacy Retirement Communities CEO Greg Joyce, Cathy Blythe of KFOR, and LHA Tenant Services Manager Susan Tatum.
