4th Sunday of Advent December 18, 2016

Fr. Ben’s Message:

“God is with us”

Today, we have St. Matthew’s account of the

Angel appearing to Joseph and dispelling his

fears. So often we hear the angels reassuring us

not to be afraid, “God is with us”.

Will I get everything done by Christmas? Fear

not, enjoy this final week of Advent. Read the

daily Mass readings, enjoy the season, and take

time to listen to Christmas music.

“God is with us” – Emmanuel.

Winter officially arrives this week and we have

the shortest day of sunlight. Fear not, “God is

with us”.

See you next weekend!

A Note about Christmas Flowers…

Thank you! The colors for Christmas are white and gold. Several years ago liturgists complained about all the red poinsettias that were being used as decorations and encouraged the use of white poinsettias. This year, white poinsettias were difficult to get. Thus you will see a variety of flowers.

Thank you! God Bless everyone for their generous donations to this year’s Giving Tree! Thank you for making it a special Christmas for those children living in foster homes in our local area.

If you are interested in assisting with the Giving Tree Program next year, please contact Kathy Fransen at 503-458-6077 or Amy in the parish office 503-325-3671.

In today’s Gospel, we hear that Jesus will be named Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” The mystery of the birth of Jesus is supremely a mystery of love. May each Christmas find us more and more like him: more humble, more holy, more happy and more full of God.

In the month of November, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help the poor and suffering to face their hardships and fears, by assisting 121 families for a total of 376 individuals with food and supplies from our food pantry, and providing 148 weekend bags of nutritious food to children through the Food for Kids Program. Notas del Padre Ben:

“Dios está con nosotros”

Hoy en día, tenemos el cuento de San Mateo

que el ángel aparece a José y disipa su

miedo. A menudo escuchamos a los Ángeles

tranquilizarnos para no tener miedo, "Dios

está con nosotros".

¿Voy a terminar todo para Navidad? No

temáis, disfruta de esta última semana de

Adviento.

¡Gracias! Los colores para la Navidad

son blancos y oro. Hace varios años

los liturgistas sé quejaban sobre todas

las flores de Pascua rojas que se

utilizaban como adornos y fomentó el

uso de las noche buenas blancas. Este

año, las noche buenas blancas fue

difícil de obtener. Así que usted verá

una gran variedad de flores.
