Parish DirectoryFrom the Desk of Father JackGreetings!

Well, there are just seven more shopping days un-

til Christmas. Isn't is amazing that the time before

Christmas is gauged by shopping days? On this

Fourth Sunday of Advent, let us be grateful that we

have an additional seven days to prepare for the

Lord's coming in our lives in the world, in our lives

within the Church, and in our lives within our family.

There is an old song that goes "What the world needs now is love, sweet

love". This was a song of the 60s/70s and written by Hal David and Burt

Bacharach. It is true the world does need love, but we Advent people

believe that what the world needs now is God in our lives. We believe

that our God became one of us in order to save us and redeem us from

our sins. If we listen to news programs or even read the daily papers we

see a desperate need for the presence of God. What the world needs

now is much more than sweet love - what the world needs now is God

and we appreciate that God in Jesus Christ.

The Church founded by Jesus Christ needs a continual presence of God.

Thankfully we celebrate the presence

of our God every day when the Church

gathers together daily to celebrate Je-

sus in the Mass. The Church is the con-

stant presence of God which enables

us to know, love and serve Him.

As individual families, we need the

presence of God to help us survive life.

The family is the greatest avenue to experience God. I'm fully aware that

family life is not always perfect, but none of us are and that is why we

need to invite and celebrate Jesus in our homes and families.

John the Baptist prepared for the coming of Jesus. We need to pick up

the mantle of John the Baptist and prepare and announce the presence

of Jesus Christ in our world, our Church and ourselves.

Happy Advent! We are just seven days away from Christmas!

Peace, Father Jack

Sacrament. We are in need of an additional prayer part-

ner Wednesdays from 1:00 -2:00 a.m. and Sundays from

scheduled adorer who needs a partner who could commit

to at least two days per month. If you are interested in be-

coming an adorer, please contact Joyce at 612-860-3830.

Let Us Walk in the Light of the LordBehold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him

Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” (Mt. 1:23) Processing forward,

walking together in unity, during communion at Mass is an incredible

visible demonstration of God’s presence with human members of the

Church. The Sacred Constitution on the Liturgy states: …every liturgical

celebration, because it is an action of Christ the Priest and of his Body

which is the Church, is a sacred action surpassing all others; no other

action of the Church can equal its e! ectiveness by the same title and to

the same degree (#7). May the hearts of all who process together during

communion be open to the light of Emmanuel, God with us.

Advent Re! ection - “I Am” Helen Mallicoat

I was regretting the past and fearing the future.

Suddenly my Lord was speaking: “My name is ‘I Am.’”

He paused. I waited. He continued.

“When you live in the past with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard.

I am not there. My name is not ‘I Was.’”

When you live in the future, with its problems and fears, it is hard.

I am not there. My name is not ‘I Will Be.’

When you live in the moment it is not hard,

I am here. My name is ‘I Am.’”

St. Stephen’s Catholic School integrates faith with academics to prepare students to make solid Christian choices. It is an accredited, private school, comprised of pre-school, elementary, and middle school levels.

Faith: As a vital part of the parish community, we educate students in a Catholic atmosphere enriched by the Gospel messages of peace and justice. The spiritual development of students is the primary goal. The school recognizes that a person's faith is formed by living out that faith in community through prayer, worship, service and study; and grounded in our Catholic tradition.

Academics: In partnership with their family, each student is encouraged and directed to reach his or her potential. Our academic program emphasizes mas-tery of the basics, academic excellence, and a variety of extracurricular activities. The school prepares students to be fully equipped for their next level of academic achievement.

Community: The school seeks to provide a safe and trusting learning environment where each student is valued and chal-lenged to grow spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically.

Fourth Sunday of Advent ©Liturgical Publications Inc"She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus." Joseph heard these

prophetic words in a dream. They were words of anticipation, of what

was to come. And in a sense, they ushered in a kind of Advent for Jo-

seph. With this divine message, Joseph began a period of holy waiting.

He now knew that the Messiah was going to be coming into his own

home, and he had just nine months to prepare! We can only imagine

how Joseph might have spent these precious days. Most likely he did

more than prepare a physical home for his soon-to-be-born Son; he

must have also used these days to prepare his heart, mind, and soul for

such a tremendous mission.

Today, we stand in a position not all that di# erent from St. Joseph. We

also know that the Messiah will be arriving--not just in remembrance at

Christmastime, but in reality at the second coming. But unlike Joseph,

we don't have an ex-

act timeframe. We don't

know when Jesus will re-

turn. We just know that

we need to be ready!

During the season of Ad-

vent we are challenged

to recall this fact and

strive to get our hearts in

order. The days are short

now until Christmas, and

for all we know they might be short until Christ's return as well. What

remains to be done? Aside from wrapping presents and planning par-

ties, where do we yet need to tidy up our habits to properly celebrate

the real meaning of this festive season? How can we make sure that we

don't get swept away in the external preparations, forgetting the work

that needs to be done in the invisible silence of our souls?

God may not speak to all of us directly in our dreams, but he does speak

to us clearly through his word. May we recognize today the mission he

has laid before us.

The Gift of Generosity - Sunday Stewardship and Christmas GivingEach year, we rely on generous Christmas contributions to support

the ministries of our parish. Weekly Sunday o" erings are also vital; it

is through these ongoing gifts that we are able to fund sta# ng needs,

building operation and maintenance costs, and the many services and

ministries our parish provides.

As Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year,

please consider o" ering your regular Sunday

o" ering and an additional Christmas o" ering

to the parish.

If you receive a contribution envelope packet, you will ! nd envelopes for

both a Christmas o" ering and a Sunday o" ering for Sunday, December

25. You may give at Mass or you may wish to contribute electronically.

Visit www.ststephenchurch.org and click on the “Online Giving” link lo-

cated along the top bar of the home page or contact the church o# ce

for more information. We understand that you may be traveling to visit

loved ones this Christmas and we want to make it easy for you to re-

member our parish during this joyful time.

As we approach the end of the calendar year, please be reminded that

if you would like your ! nancial contributions to be counted for chari-

table giving tax purposes for 2016, contributions must be received or

postmarked on or before December 31, 2016. Thank you very much for

your generosity in support of our parish. The Parish O# ce will be open

December 31, 2016 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Thank you for your generous contributions at Christmas and through-

out the year!

Yo no estoy ahí.

No estoy ahi.
