    WE NEED ASSISTANTCOACHES FOR THESPRING SESSION.

    Run Hard is an afterschool running club forboys at LMES. We have agreat head coach, Mrs.Fran Ricks. We need 2assistant coaches in orderto have a team at LMESfor a spring session. Ifyou are available to helpMrs. Ricks from 2:30-3:45on Tuesdays and Thurs-days, please contact Mrs.Plemmonsat [email protected] or 803-476-4600 . Thespring Run Hard seasonwill go from March 3, -April 30.You can find more infor-mationat www.runhard.org .

    We are looking for coachesand assistant coaches for thespring Girls On The Run Sea-son. LMES has been blessedwith some great LMEScoaches in the past. We arelooking to add more coachesto our legacy so we can havea spring GOTR site at LMES.

    GOTR meets afterschool from 2:45 - 3:45 onMonday and Wednesday'sbeginning February 9- May 2.GOTR will provide all thematerials and training forthose people interested incoaching.If you are interested in coach-ing, please contact Mrs.Plemmonsat [email protected] o

    Active Gamecock Log's nextbasketball game will be Friday,January 2, 2015. USC Women'sBasketball team will take onAuburn at 7PM. Do not forget tobring your tickets to get in free.

    The Media Center BoxTops for Education contestwas very successful. Sec-ond Grade won and willreceive a treat soon. We

    raised $2,019.10 in BoxTops. What a wonderfulway to recycle! Thankyou for participating, andplease keep saving BoxTops. We will have anoth-er contest in the spring.

    Give the gift of health andsafety to yourself and othersby following these holidaytips.

    Wash hands often tokeep yourself fromspreading germs andgetting sick. Wash yourhands with soap andclean running water forat least 20 seconds.

    Bundle up to stay dryand warm. Wear appro-priate outdoor clothing:layers of light, warmclothing; mittens; hats;scarves; and waterproofboots.

    Manage stress. Don'tover commit yourself toprevent holiday anxietyand pressure.

    Practice fire safety. Mostresidential fires occur

    during the wintermonths, so be careful tonever leave fireplaces,space heaters, stoves, orcandles unattended.Have an emergency planand practice it regularly.

    Prepare food safely. Re-member these simplesteps: wash hands andsurfaces often, avoidcross-contamination,cook foods to proper

    temperatures, and refrig-erate promptly.

    Eat healthy, and getmoving. Eat fruits andvegetables. Limit yourportion sizes and foodshigh in fat, salt and sug-ar. Be active for at least2.5 hours a week andhelp kids and teens beactive for at leastone hour a day.

    Fasten seat belts whiledriving or riding in a motor

    vehicle. Always buckleyour child in the car usinga child safety seat, boosterseat, or seat belt accordingto his/her height, weight,and age. Use a seat belt onevery trip, no matter howshort the trip.

    Get exams and screenings.Ask what exams you needand when to get them. Up-date your personal andfamily history.

    Get your vaccinations,which help prevent diseas-es.

    Monitor the children. Keeppotentially dangerous toys,food, drinks, householditems, and other objects outof kids' reach. Develop andreinforce rules about ac-ceptable and safe behaviorsincluding electronic media.
