Dear Parents/Guardians, Mother nature was on our side this morning as the snowfall arrived just in time for Rolph’s Grade 2/3 Winter Olympics! The opening ceremony for all countries began with their oaths at 1:00 and then the fun and games began! We have posted pictures of some of the events on the next pag-es. Thank you to Mr. Bryson, Mr. Bailey and our Grade 2/3 teachers for making this experience possible and for truly engaging our students in the spirit of the Winter Games.
Earlier in the week, we had our school trustee, Ms. Gerri Gershon, visit on Wednesday. I was de-lighted to take her on a school tour. Our class visits really helped bring to life the goals we have been working on as a school this year: higher order thinking, inquiry, technology, and wellness. Students were confident and excited to share what they were learning in class and to answer all of our questions. What was nice to see, was how our added allocation of resources in Mathe-matics, Science, Technology and Literacy were utilized to extend and engage students in their learning. Many of these resources were compliments of your ongoing fundraising efforts that tru-ly supplement the school budget, so THANK YOU! On another note, many highlights of the great work of staff and our progress to date with the school improvement plan were shared at our Home and School/School Advisory Council meeting on Monday. I always knew that parent en-gagement was strong at our school, however, the number of parents who attended on Monday night was minimal and unexpected. I continue to stress the importance of our partnership, so when we have these meetings, and they are few, ideally I would love all families in attendance, but at least, moving forward, one parent representative from each class. This is how we build ca-pacity and the only way we can truly work together to support, understand and develop a com-mon understanding of what is happening at Rolph and the direction we are moving in. Here’s ad-vance notice…Please mark your calendars and join us at our next Council meeting on Monday, April 30th. As always, please remember to reach out to your child’s teacher, should you have any academic or other concerns that may arise on a day-to-day basis. This will help ensure the suc-cess and support of your child’s learning and wellbeing while at school and foster this school-home partnership. Coming up at Rolph next week, we have the well-anticipated performances from our primary stu-dents with our Music Concerts: For Kindergarten on Wednesday, March 7th- A Musical Extravaganza in the school gym.
Please note that doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6:00 p.m. For Grades 1-3 on Thursday, March 8th- Sounds of Toronto 2018 at Leaside High School Au-
ditorium, 200 Hanna Road. Please note that doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00 p.m.
I have seen the hard work and practice that has gone into each of the performances next week, as I am sure you have heard at home with a particular song or dance over the past month. I’d like to review concert etiquette that is in place to ensure we all honour and respect this one big night for our children: There is no running in the gym or auditorium. Please ensure that you adequately supervise
children in your care. Only performers are permitted on stage. There may be a section at the front marked for younger children to sit on the gym floor.
This will be marked with pylons and children/ supervising parents are not to go beyond this point. This applies to parents taking photos- Please note, you may not go beyond the py-lons or near the stage at any point during the show.
If taking photos, be respectful of those behind you so they too may enjoy the performance. Please wait until the end of the show to leave or pick up your child. For Grade 1-3 parents, the following rooms will be the expected location for drop off and pick up that night: Room 226 (Plumb. Kroboth), 227 (Fitzpatrick, Mora), 213 (Kemp, Comber, Glee).

Last but not least, warmest congratulations to Ms. Bordman who gave birth to daughter Sadie last week. We wish her well in this new chapter and know she will truly enjoy her role as mommy. Regarding her position at Rolph, I am happy to welcome Ms. Rachel Standing, who will be taking on the MART role and supporting students in the morning, as well as Ms. Heather Cook, who will be continuing the Empower Program and supporting students in the afternoon. We are fortunate to have both join our staff.
Have a lovely weekend. I look forward to seeing you at the concerts next week!

Congratulations to staff who stepped their way to our final Olympic destination, the
Bokwang Phoenix Snowboard Park. We achieved our goal of 200 kilometres 2 days
ahead of schedule. That's almost 30 kilometres of walking and stepping a day, since we
started from virtual downtown PyeongChang.
WE BAKE FOR CHANGE . . .
Great News!!
Not only did we meet our goal, we surpassed it!
Thanks to the hard work of the WE Club students and the generosity of the
staff and students, a total of $622.55 was raised through this event.
That means that as well as 4 goats, 3 hens and a rooster, the money raised will
provide a farmload of animals (including cows and pigs) and a sheep.
Well done to the WE Club members: Kaitlin, Alexa, Owen, Shelby, Allison, Ra-
chel, Lily, Milla, FIona, Norah and Evelyn.
A special thank-you to students who donated baked good to the event: Evan,
Chloe, Charlie, Maija, Nathan and Nate.
We want to thank all of the Rolph Road community who participated in this
effort and for helping to make the world a better place!
Old Man Winter came through with snow
for our Grade 2 and 3 Winter Fun Olympics
on Friday!
Grade 4 students from Mr. Whitaker and
Ms. Roberts class assisted with the running
of the 5 events and 10 Olympic teams.
A great time was had by all washed down
with yummy hot chocolate thanks to H&S.
A special Thank You to Mr. Bryson!
