February 17, 2017 Dear Parents, I am delighted that students are involved in many areas of our school program. Our young musicians have displayed their talent recently at various venues. Our 8th grade orchestra students participated in an orchestra festival on Thursday in Greensboro. Last week our 6th grade band students displayed their musical accomplishments at our school concert. In addition, it’s competition time for some of our clubs. The Math Counts team competed two weeks ago; we are waiting for the results. Our Battle of the Books students will travel to JM Robinson for a competition among schools in the South Learning Community on February 28. It is so nice to see our students flourishing in all areas including academics, the arts, sports and clubs. Just a reminder that today, February 17 is a make-up day from our January snow day, and is a B-day. Monday, February 20 is a Teacher Workday so there will be no school for students. Enjoy the President's Day Weekend. Regards, Lisa Bailes, Principal

Dear Parents,

I am delighted that students are involved in many areas of our school program. Our

young musicians have displayed their talent recently at various venues. Our 8th grade

orchestra students participated in an orchestra festival on Thursday in Greensboro. Last

week our 6th grade band students displayed their musical accomplishments at our school

concert. In addition, it’s competition time for some of our clubs. The Math Counts team

competed two weeks ago; we are waiting for the results. Our Battle of the Books students

will travel to JM Robinson for a competition among schools in the South Learning

Community on February 28. It is so nice to see our students flourishing in all areas

including academics, the arts, sports and clubs.

Just a reminder that today, February 17 is a make-up day from our January snow day, and

is a B-day. Monday, February 20 is a Teacher Workday so there will be no school for

students. Enjoy the President's Day Weekend.

Staff Appreciation Week for South Charlotte Middle School is around the corner!

March 13- 17, 2017

We have planned a full week of wonderful treats (Target gift cards, snacks and school supplies), a delicious breakfast and special lunch for the ALL SCMS Staff to show them how valuable they are to us! WE are including everyone from our awesome bus drivers to our fabulous teachers! If you are able to help, we could use your help in one or two ways: 1. Monetary gifts: Place a check in an envelope marked Teacher Appreciation Week and send it to school with your child ( the front office is collecting) or mail or drop off to: Annie Koch, 2327 Kingsmill Terrace, Charlotte, NC 28270. Please make you check out to South Charlotte Middle School. Any amount is greatly appreciated 2. Donations- A $25 Target gift card would be wonderful. We would like to surprise the staff with “a gift card- give away.” Judy in the front office will be helping collect or you can call or email me: Annie Koch 704-957-7188 or [email protected] to arrange for pick up. Thank you for all of your support of South Charlotte Middle School.

Attention all 7th Graders!

Do you have what it takes to represent South Charlotte Middle as a member of the National Junior Honor Society?

Submit your application for consideration today!

Mrs. Yasurek, the NJHS faculty advisor, is currently accepting applications for South Charlotte’s

2017-2018 Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Students who are interested in membership will need to complete the application form in its entirety and submit it for

consideration to Mrs. Yasurek in room 312 by the April 5th due date. Copies of the application form are available online at:

http://scms-njhs.weebly.com/how-to-apply.html . The National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization which recognizes outstanding Middle School students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character.

The standards for selection are established by the National Junior Honor Society of the United States and by the South Charlotte Middle School NJHS by-laws. As stated

in the National Junior Honor Society Handbook, “Selection to the National Junior Honor Society is a privilege and not a right. Students do not apply for membership in

the National Junior Honor Society; instead, they provide information to be used by the local selection committee to support their candidacy for membership.”

Materials submitted by the candidates will be reviewed by the NJHS faculty panel.

Candidates will be notified of their status by early May.

For more information, please visit: http://scms-njhs.weebly.com/how-to-apply.html .

Online School Payments (OSP) - CMS has provided us with the opportunity to accept pay-

ments for school events on-line. It is much like Athletics Pay-to-Play, comes with a fee (4%),

and allows you to pay at your convenience. If you choose to pay on-line, it also relieves

our teachers from the time taken to do the paperwork and to receipt and turn in money or

checks. Teachers will continue to take cash and checks as they always have.

Just sign in to: osp.osmsinc.com/CMS

Choose your student’s event and homeroom teacher, and make payment.

The teacher and Financial Secretary are sent advisements of your payment.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. Through the year, events will be

added including field trips, textbooks, fees, and other payments.
