April 21, 2017 Dear Parents, Welcome back from spring break. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing our talented South Charlotte Middle students perform next week in Willy Wonka, Jr. We have over fifty students involved in this production. I hope you are making plans to attend on April 27 or 28. It will be a great show. Third quarter report cards were sent home with students on Wednesday, April 19. Please remember that you can check on your child's grade throughout the school year using parent portal through PowerSchool. Please contact Mrs. Judy Franek ([email protected]) if you need information about accessing the parent portal. Beginning May 1 we will use our academic enrichment period to review material from the year in preparation for our EOG exams. All students will participate in this "relooping" time and will visit their core classes on a rotating schedule. We have found that this extra review at the end of the year helps tie together all of the units. Finally, this Wednesday, April 26 will be a 3-hour early release day for students. School will be dismissed at 12:30 so staff can participate in professional development. Best, Lisa Bailes, Principal

As Spring has sprung we have had a lot of questions and concerns as to what

bullying is. We would like to share this information to clarify the differences

between common social interactions and bullying. Please read the article linked

below to understand what bullying is and what bullying is not.

It's very important for victims to know what is not bullying to

ensure that when things seem hurtful they aren't always classi-

fied as bullying

Let us take steps to encourage our South Charlotte Middle School family to be the best we can be. Please share your favorite fitness/health app, heart-healthy family recipe and student/family active fitness photos by emailing entries to [email protected].

Jerry Singleton, a 6th grader at South Charlotte Middle, is a great person and student and quite a character. With a bright smile and charming personality, this kid is ready to tackle the world. To this point in his middle school career, Jerry says that his greatest achievement in PE was maxing out on pre-test sit-ups and push-ups. He is motivated to work on his abdominals to increase those numbers even more. Jerry is very well spoken on a number of sports and athletics issues. He is crazy about basketball which he plays outside of school and considers a hobby. While Jerry also plays baseball, he is quick to point out that his daily stress reliever is playing basketball or just dribbling a ball “any chance I get.” While basketball and baseball are his sporting hobbies, Jerry also likes to collect sneakers. Doing fun activities with his parents is also high on his list. Jerry says something unique that many people may not know about him is that he is “very smart and (he) gets all A’s consistently”. He also says he is “a phenomenal basketball player.” While he is a busy guy, Jerry’s recent family vacation was to water country and Busch Gardens in Virginia which was special to him because he got to spend quality time with his family. Asked where he would choose to go anywhere in the world on vacation if given the chance, Jerry said that he “would go to Syria and Africa and help those in need”. Big plans are driving Jerry’s future college decisions. He wants to attend an Ivy League school and Oxford University to set him up for his career to either “be a lawyer and own (his) own law firm, play in the NBA or be President of the USA.”
