Dear Educators, My name is Rebecca Anne Hart and I am the Executive Director of Hart Square Village. Our historic site is home to the LARGEST collection of log cabins in the world! We have 101 cabins total ranging from a cotton gin, one room schoolhouse, general store, print shop and so much more. And we are conveniently located in Vale in Catawba County, NC. Our log cabins have all been rescued from the Western North Carolina region and date between 1760 and 1880. Each building is furnished with original time-period antiques to bring the village to life. They truly capture the pioneer heritage better than any other space in the region. Last year, we saw 1,000 children visit our site and are increasing this number every year. We would really like for your school to be a part of our educational programming. In the coming years we hope to expand after-school programming and summer opportunities in addition to our already established field trip programming. Hart Square Village
Students will break into groups and rotate through four stations. While observing the blacksmith, they will learn about the scientific processes of heating and cooling and metal properties. Next, with our Native American storyteller, they will be exposed to the diverse folklore and traditions of the past.
After a lunch break, Hart Square founders, Bob and Becky Hart, will take them on a personal tour of their log cabin village. Students will immerse themselves in pioneer life while walking through the
interactive collection. Finally, they will end the tour learning about agriculture and crop rotation. At this station, they will make corn husk angels which they can take home with them to their families!

Hart Square is a local and national treasure. When children first arrive, they are enchanted, but as they explore and delve more deeply into the cabins and lives of our ancestors, a sense of respect for the rugged ingenuity of their ancestors emerges. Hart Square is different than other historical villages. It doesn't depict how the other half lived - it shows us homesteading as it was - demanding, collaborative, fundamental, and also incredibly innovative. It is magical to visit Hart Square and to witness the children experiencing it!
