    A Day Out

For the last few months I have spent every Saturday in my flat and have done nothing more

exciting than work at home, read the newspapers and watch television. I had begun feeling bored with

this and so, last weekend I thought I would do something different. I rang up several of my friends and

we decided to go to London for a day. I was really excited as I hadn't been to London since I was ten.We decided to go by coach as this was by far the cheapest means of transport that was available even

though it meant that we needed to get up very early. Once in London we decided to take a sightseeing

tour as we wanted to see some of the famous buildings. After the tour we bought some sandwiches and

ate them in a small park. In the afternoon two of us went shopping and the others went to the theatre.

IV/. READ THE FOLLOWING PASSAGE AND CHOOSE THE WORD OR PHRASE THATBEST FITS EACH BLANK: (T cu 31 n cu 40*)Why I Dislike Computers

Almost everyone says that computers are wonderful and that they are changing our lives for the betterby (31).......... everything faster and more reliable, but I'm not so sure that this is the case.

The other day I was standing in a large department store (32).......... to pay for a couple of films

for my camera when the assistant announced that the computer (33).......... the bill had stopped

working. I didn't think this was a big problem and I set off (34).......... another computer , but of course, all the machines are part of the same (35).......... . So there we were: a shop (36).......... customers,

money at the ready, waiting to make our purchases, but it was quite clear that (37).......... assistants

knew what to do. They weren't (38).......... our money and give customers a written receipt, because the

sales wouldn't then have been recorded on the computer system. (39).......... ,like many other people, I

left my shopping on the counter and walked out. Don't you think that's ridiculous ? It would never have

happened before computers, and that, for me, is the problem: we are beginning to depend on thesemachines so completely that we simply can't manage (40).......... any more.Cu 31:A. making B. doing C. causing D. workingCu 32:A. waited B. wait C. to wait D. waitingCu 33:A. which controlling B. which controlled C. controlled D. who controlledCu 34:A. to find B. finding C. by finding D. to found
