DCC Water Restrictions ( as of 16.15 Tuesday 4th January 2011) The return to work this morning after the Christmas – New Year holiday period has brought an expected rise in demand. It will be a number of days before the full impact of this rise on drinking water storage levels can be assessed. It is therefore necessary to continue with restrictions for the rest of this week and through the weekend. Broken mains are being found and fixed and this will help improve the situation. Many of these have been reported by members of the public and we ask that people continue to assist us in this regard(contact details are given below), as well as by reducing their consumption of water in every possible way. Details of the restrictions through to Friday (7 th Jan) are set out below. The restrictions are being reviewed on an ongoing basis and alterations are made where possible so as to minimise the impact on consumers. A large number of internal leaks have already been identified on properties empty over the holiday period. All key holders throughout the city should return to their premises, especially schools, as soon as possible to check for leaks on their property. Tankers have been sent to the following locations Tuesday 4th January 2011 (10:00 until 16:00): Artane Castle, Shopping Centre (Off Skellys lane), Coolock. North Side Shopping Centre. Hampton Wood, St. Margarets Rd, Shopping Centre, Lorcan Avenue. Captains Rd, Crumlin We will also have a number of mobile tankers available to respond to areas as needed. Griffith Avenue Kimmage These locations may change in response to need. We would ask consumers to bring their own containers. The Civil Defence are providing invaluable assistance in dealing with nursing homes, hospitals and other vulnerable consumers. The following locations may experience loss of supply due to localised problems.

The return to work this morning after the Christmas – New Year holiday period has brought an expected rise in demand. It will be a number of days before the full impact of this rise on drinking water storage levels can be assessed. It is therefore necessary to continue with restrictions for the rest of this week and through the weekend. Broken mains are being found and fixed and this will help improve the situation. Dublin City Council appeals to the owners/operators of car washes which use mains water to discontinue their use for the duration of the current water supply crisis. Similarly, we ask owners of private cars to refrain from washing them for the moment.

Customers should be aware that unlike some other utilities, water distribution systems cannot be operated and managed to the point where the exact locations and precise times at which the effects of pressure alternations (both increases and decreases) will be experienced, however we do make every effort to ensure that the times and areas effected are limited to those mentioned above.

We would like to thank people for their patience and cooperation and we would ask that people report locations where they see water running/rising  to the contacts given below.

Bogus callers may use the current water problems to gain access to houses. If a member of Dublin City Council calls to a property they will always carry and produce identification. If the caller asks you to check the flow of water at the taps, close the door fully while you do so. If you are in any doubt do not allow access. Emergency Number 01-6796186(outside office hours only)Email [email protected]
