Day 5 Third Party Reports, Evictions, Bankruptcies

What are third party reporting agencies?
2
• There are several small agencies that collect and sell different types of consumer information to businesses who need to make a decision about you. These smaller credit reporting agencies are also subject to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which means you have the right to an accurate credit report, and you’re allowed to dispute any inaccurate information with the credit reporting agency to have it corrected or removed.
• You are entitled to one FREE report from each third party reporting agency a year
• They have to follow the same rules/laws as the Big Three
• You can dispute any info on any of these reports
• Lot easier to dispute than the big three

Should you freeze all these reports?
3
Freezing the reports will be a personal decision and some freezes may benefit you more than others. However, if your goal for freezing/suppressing these reports are to hide the info from the credit bureaus then it is pointless. The CB’s still have access to these reports before and after freezing. Instead I recommend you to dispute the information included.

Suppressing your Lexis Nexis (or any other consumer
report) will NOT keep the credit bureaus from accessing
your consumer file.

Background Checks
Employment screening companies provide verification information such as credit history, employment, salary and education and professional license verification to employers and others.
Tenant Screening
Tenant screening companies provide reports to landlords and residential real estate management companies. If you are applying as a tenant for a residential property a tenant screening report with negative information in it, such as past due rent, could result in a rejected lease application or a lease with tough conditions.
