Welcome Kindergarten Class of 2016
of the drum team each year and
the growing confidence each
team has displayed. These girls
have certainly set a high stand-
ard for Year 6 next year and we
hope that next year some of the
boys may join the team as well!
Congratulations on a job well
done. Finally, congratulations to
our school captains Lucy and
Nic on the completion of their
roles during the service. They
presented our school wreath
with great dignity and Nic read
one of the prayers with maturi-
ty and thoughtfulness.
Yesterday many of our students
joined staff and community
members for the Wee Waa
ANZAC Day service. Congratula-
tions to the students who gave
up their last morning of the
holidays to remember the sacri-
fice of service men and women
in preserving the freedoms and
rights we enjoy today. Thank
you to those staff members too
who gave up their morning to
assist the students. It was inspi-
rational to see so many of our
youngest students taking part in
their first ANZAC Day ceremony.
It was my 35th ceremony in Wee
Waa. I have seen many changes
in that time but it is particularly
gratifying to see the number of
students from all schools taking
part. The oration given by Wee
Waa High captain Abbey
Downes was particularly well
done. She was quite emotional
about it afterwards when I
thanked her. It meant so much
to her to be given this oppor-
tunity to express her profound
thanks for the sacrifice so many
have given in order that we live
as we do today.
For the 3rd year our drum team
took part in both the dawn
service and the main service
providing a lively beat for every-
one to march to. The team of
Maliyah Combo, Lucy Crutcher,
Josie Galagher, Phoebe Paul-
ston, Tanika Slee & Ashily Wil-
liams had given up many
lunchtimes and even part of
their holidays to practise with
me. It paid off with great per-
formances. It has been inter-
esting to see the development

What’s happening in Term 2? Starting the term with AN-
ZAC Day is just a taste of
all the activity of term 2.
There are too many high-
lights to list them all here
so I ask EVERY parent to
read the newsletter EACH
WEEK so that you are
aware of upcoming events
and can support the
efforts of your children.
Next week we start a busy
sport time with the annual
CROSS COUNTRY. This will
be held on THURSDAY 4th
May. Rugby League, Net-
ball, girls soccer and soft-
ball all happen this term.
NAPLAN assessments for
Years 3 & 5 are in week 3
and the Narrabri Eistedd-
fod starts in week 5. We
conclude the term with
Parent Teacher interviews
and a disco for the stu-
dents to enjoy the winter
solstice.

North West Rugby League
Representatives
Kaedn Hamilton and Isaiah Cochrane
were in Tamworth on Friday as part of
the Southern Zone Rugby League
team. The boys took on the Northern
Zone team and were vying for selec-
tion to represent the North West.
In a large field of talented players
both boys were successful and are
now part of the team who will play in
the State Under 11s championships at
the end of May.
Congratulations boys! This is an awe-
some achievement.
Mother’s Day Stall
Our Mother’s Day stall will be held on Fri-
day 12th May. If you would like your child
to participate please send in a suitable in-
expensive gift and $2 prior to the day. Stu-
dents who don’t send in a gift may pur-
chase one for $5

Digital Literacy Grant Success
With colder weather due to hit I would remind
parents to make sure jumpers are labelled with
names. The amount of lost property that builds
up during term 2 is massive but when we find
something with a name on it a happy reunion
with the owner is swiftly completed! Children
should transition into winter uniform this week
and we expect everyone to be in correct winter
uniform next week. It has been a great start to
the term and I would like to thank in particular
those parents who supported ANZAC DAY by
getting their children there. If anyone ever has
any concerns remember to contact the teacher
in the first instance or ring the office for an inter-
view with the principal. My door is always open
and I respond as quickly as circumstance will
allow.
As I alerted the school community over the weekend via our school face book page the school has been success-ful with our application for a Federal Government sci-ence and technology grant worth $20,000. Our applica-tion was submitted in October 2016 and we only heard of our success at the end of term one 2017. Over 1800 schools applied for the grant with 100 being successful across the entire country. The purpose of the grant is to: 1. stimulate best practice models of implementation in, student and teacher engagement in, the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies;
2. encourage sharing of ideas and experiences in rela-tion to the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies, within and among schools;
3. facilitate the development, implementation and shar-ing of demonstration projects that can be used by other schools to implement the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies; and
4. facilitate effective ways that leaders can inspire their teachers and students to extend and apply their learn-ing across other learning areas through the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies. We intend purchasing science related resources, up-skilling the staff about the new technologies and devel-oping closer ties to other schools in our district through science related activities. Watch this space for details as the term goes along.
