Mr Burkitt’s Message
It was great to return back to school this morning after some running repairs. Fortunately I am on the mend and healing well.
Friday night proved to be all about Bonville Public School at the Coffs Harbour Annual garden club awards night. Michael Pountney and all of the chil-dren who work in our gardens must take much of the credit. Bonville School received first place in ‘best school vegetable garden’, first place in ‘best native school garden’ and second place
in the “Curly Kale” growing competition.
Today we began top dressing part of our school oval. We are hoping to sow grass seed in the bare patches and overall level out the children’s playing area. Once this area is completed we will then move to another section.
Congratulations to all the students who faced their fears and delivered speeches to their class last week. Most adults, when asked what do they fear most, would reply ‘Public Speaking’. Fortunately, Bonville students get this opportunity at a young age. Good luck to those students who were select-ed to deliver their speech to the whole school.
This Thursday, 27th September, the school social
will be held in the CWA Hall. The Social will com-mence at 5:30pm and conclude at 7:00pm. Please drop your children at the door and enjoy some time to yourself as the staff entertain them. The cost will be $5.00 entry which will also include a popper and chips. All proceeds will support the Year 5 and 6 Sydney Excursion.
A sausage sizzle will be available at 5:00pm before the social commences. This will be set up around the side of the CWA Hall.
This Friday will mark the end of Term 3 and the students will have a 2 week vacation. The school will be closed during this time however our General Assistant, Mr Miller, will be on site on Mondays and Tuesday mornings. Our cleaners, Alex and Colin will also be here in the second week. If you are driving past please keep an eye out for anything suspicious and if you see anything please report it. We hope that your children have a safe and enjoy-able break and are ready to return to school on Monday 15
th October.
Thank you. Have a great week. Dean Burkitt
Coding Club: Last week all students across the
school were invited to attend lunchtime coding
club sessions where they were introduced to
some of our new robots and digital technology
devices. The robots are on loan to the school as
part of a STEM share project to enable all
students the opportunity to develop creative,
critical, analytical and computational thinking
processes to give them the collaborative and
problem solving skills required to prosper in life
as well as chosen career paths into the
future. Students will interact with the robots and
devices in hands on experiments to 'discover by
doing' and will test their own solutions and
strategies to solve learning challenges and
projects. Coding Club will continue in term
4 each Monday for K-2 and Thursday for years
3-6.
Woolworths Discovery Excursion: On the
20th September 14 students went to Toormina
Gardens for a Woolworths Discovery Tour. We
met a lady named Marnie. We all stood inside
two cool rooms, a freezer and all of the
departments. We also went into the bakery to
see how they form the shapes of the dough. We
walked through the deli and looked at what was
in the windows. Marnie took us to the lunch
room. She had two whole plates of fruit and
vegetables and a tray full of watermelon. She
showed us the loading dock and the food bin.

Fruit & Vege Month: As Fruit and Vegtember
comes to a close and the data collected
throughout the month is collated, it is clear to
see an increased awareness around the
positive outcomes of healthy
eating. Congratulations to our winning class
2/3C with an impressive 72% of students
bringing in both fresh fruit and vegetables every
day. They won a master class with Mrs
Osterloh, creating raw, nutritious carrot cake
balls, a completely different way of incorporating
fresh vegetables into the lunch box. While all
our class averages were still above state
average there is certainly room for
improvement, and by creating healthy eating
habits now we are supporting our students in
developing into healthy active adults.
Here is the recipe we followed to make our
yummy carrot cake balls:
3 medium - carrot
6 medium - Dates, Medjool
1/2 cup - pecans, chopped(optional we
replaced ours with desiccated coconut)
1 cup - oats, dry
1 teaspoon - cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon - nutmeg
1/2 teasp[oon - ginger, ground
1/8 teasponn - sea salt
