They wanted me to have something that was distinctly Fort Worth. And they probably wanted me to fit in after having come from Canada! I had no idea what I was getting. I didn’t realize that Leddy’s was such a Fort Worth treasure, having been boot makers since the 1920s. So, when I was taken to Leddy’s to get fitted and pick out the style that I wanted, I quickly began to realize that I was experiencing something amazing. The fitting took almost an hour and it included trying on various pairs of boots and talking about where even the slightest pressure was being felt on the bottom of my feet. They were that precise and meticulous with the process of getting a perfect fit. It’s a wonderful gift and I’m excited about them. But I won’t get to wear them for another eleven months. It takes a whole year for them to be made. Once again, the attention to detail and the meticulous process of making those boots just for me is exciting! The anticipation is glorious! As soon as I get them, I’ll be wearing them for all to see. Next year I’ll have those boots. They’ll fit like a glove, made especially for me with precision and exacting care. They are mine now, paid for in full. But I don’t see them yet. I immediately thought about our home in the Kingdom of Heaven. In John 14 Jesus says, “ 1 Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” What wonderful words full of glorious anticipation! Here is our Lord through whom all things were created, and for whom all things were created (Colossians 1.16), who is right now – at this very moment – preparing a place for us. He is God. He knows you intimately and personally. He loves you passionately and purposefully. And he knows exactly what a place for you in his Kingdom should look like to fit you perfectly. He’s been working on this place for you for a very, very long time. Can you imagine what it will be like? Isn’t the anticipation glorious? The Scriptures tell us that in Christ all the riches of heaven are already ours (Ephesians Ch. 1). By virtue of our faith and trust in him, we are lavished with his grace! We have it already, right now. It is ours right now. But we don’t see it – yet. We wait for it with anticipation and hope, knowing with certainty that we will realize it in its fullness one day. We are rapidly heading in to Advent season. And it is time that we are encouraged to look back and know that all that was said about the coming of Christ was exactingly fulfilled. And so in remembering this we look forward, knowing that all that was said about his coming again, to take us to that place that he is creating for us with exacting detail, will also happen. Glorious Anticipationby The Rev’d Jake Worley

On my first Sunday here at St. Andrew’s, the search committee and vestry gave me a gift of new, custom made boots. They wanted me to have something that was distinctly Fort Worth. And they probably wanted me to fit in after having come from Canada! I had no idea what I was getting. I didn’t realize that Leddy’s was such a Fort Worth treasure, having been boot makers since the 1920s. So, when I was taken to Leddy’s to get fitted and pick out the style that I wanted, I quickly began to realize that I was experiencing something amazing. The fitting took almost an hour and it included trying on various pairs of boots and talking about where even the slightest pressure was being felt on the bottom of my feet. They were that precise and meticulous with the process of getting a perfect fit. It’s a wonderful gift and I’m excited about them.

But I won’t get to wear them for another eleven months. It takes a whole year for them to be made. Once again, the attention to detail and the meticulous process of making those boots just for me is exciting! The anticipation is glorious! As soon as I get them, I’ll be wearing them for all to see. I immediately thought about our home in the Kingdom of Heaven. In John 14 Jesus says, “1 Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. Shoe Box Ingathering This SundayThe ingathering of the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes will take place this Sunday, November 11, during the 10:30 service. Children, youth, and adults may bring their boxes forward at the mid-point in this service, to place on a riser at the front of the church. Our Rector will have a prayer of blessing for the boxes. Pre-K children may bring their boxes to their chapel service. If you will be attending the 8:00 a.m. or the 5:00 p.m. services on this Sunday, simply bring your shoe box(es) to those services or leave them on the OCC table outside Moncrief Hall.

Monetary donations are also very thankfully received, to help with the large expenses of transporting these boxes all over the world. If

you wish to write a check, please make it payable to: Samaritan’s Purse, noted “Operation Christmas Child” in the memo line.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are still filling a shoe box or boxes and need more time, this is fine. Please be sure, however, to bring all boxes to church by next Sunday, November 18. The OCC Committee will make a final trip to our nearby Collection Center (Christ Chapel Bible Church) by noon on Monday, November 19. The boxes will leave Fort Worth on November 20.

These boxes are transported in truly remarkable, incredible ways to impoverished, needy children (often loving in crisis situations) in countries all over the world. They are all filled with Gospel materials (translated in many different languages) and wherever possible, children are also invited to attend local discipleship classes. Thousands, indeed millions, of children have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior because they first received a simple shoe box gift. This beautiful ministry was started though the vision of Franklin Graham 25 years ago. These shoe box gifts DO, indeed, keep on giving in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Angel Tree MinistrySunday, November 18 Come adopt an Angel or two in Moncrief Hall

St. Andrew’s ANGEL TREE is a heartwarming local outreach. Last year, over a hundred needy children received Christmas gifts chosen specifically for them. Without this special outreach ministry, these young ones would have very little at Christmas. The Angel Tree will be up in Moncrief Hall with angels available for adoption when you arrive SUNDAY, November 18th. St. Andrew’s parishioners are encouraged to “adopt” a child (one or more) whose information is listed on one of the angel ornaments. Once the wrapped gifts are brought back to St. Andrew’s, the Angel Tree team organizes deliveries to the three local ministries, so they can distribute them to the families in time for Christmas. It was three days prior to Halloween when a news caster reminded viewers that there were only 23 days until Thanksgiving, and 54 before winter officially arrives. I assume that for political correctness the gentle reminder of how many shopping days remaining before Christmas was overlooked. “And oh yes, do not forget to set clocks back as we ‘fall’ back an hour.” The only good news was the extra hour as the startling news forecast was enough to make me fall back. Where did October go? Could it really be only three days prior to November? This is the year everyone comes to my home for Thanksgiving. Where will they sleep? How many place settings at the table? Hope the conversations remain neutral. Better order the turkeys, and will I serve sweet potatoes or mashed potatoes or both? Pecan or pumpkin pie…Will we use my grandmother’s recipe for dressing or Jane’s Mother’s? I realized time was a wasting, and it was best to get out my “collection of recipes”.This is a wonderful time of year, one of my favorites. The change of weather and the glorious colors do give one an extra skip in their step. Just makes you feel good or at least it should. Are you able to enjoy the splendor of God’s radiance or are the falling leaves making you “anxious” with what this season brings? Well, maybe it’s time to get out your favorite collection of recipes. One thing I have discovered when using a recipe, whether grandmother’s or Jane’s, is you need to follow the directions. Have you ever left out a major ingredient, even a pinch of salt makes a difference? What is your favorite “tried and true” recipe?

PAUL’S RECIPE FOR ANXIETYRejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding; will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Philippians 4:4-8

One open mind. Place ingredients in “open mind”. Set heart to willing. Will know when done. God will be near… The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ. Guaranteed not to fall/fail.

The disciple Paul’s recipe for anxiety is tried and true, and if followed correctly will be one of your most treasured recipes. In fact, you will be surprised how many requests you will have for it especially when you “let your gentleness be evident to all.” Max Lucado in his book Anxious for Nothing…Finding Calm in a Chaotic World, observes that when this gentleness is “evident to all”, family members take note. Your friends see a difference. Coworkers benefit from it. Others may freak out or run out, but the gentle person is sober minded and clear thinking. Contagiously calm. The contagiously calm person is the one who reminds others, “God is in control.”Gentleness describes a temperament that is seasoned and mature. It envisions

an attitude that is fitting to the occasion, levelheaded and tempered. The gentle reaction is one of steadiness, evenhandedness, fairness. It “looks humanely and reasonably at the facts of a case”. Yes, there may now be only 14 days until Thanksgiving and 45 before winter arrives, but you have been given an extra hour, not to fall back but to go forward rejoicing in the Lord. POPCORN AND WALNUTS

One 96 oz. container with lid. (Your 24- hour day)32 walnuts (Represents time with the Lord each day)6-7 cups of un-popped popcorn kernels (All of life’s demands, that “stuff” that keeps us busy: the shopping, exercise, eating, cooking, cleaning, lunch with friends, parties, talking on the phone, emailing, texting, decorating, carpool, committee meetings, beauty maintenance, and the unexpected.• First pour all popcorn kernels (All of Life’s Demands)

into the container.• Follow by adding ALL 32 walnuts (Time with the

Be anxious for nothing. Rejoice in the Lord always as we experience these seasons with an attitude of thankfulness; contentment; love; gentleness; faithfulness and submission to Him. It truly is a wonderful time of the year.

THE PRAYER FOR ELECTING A NEW BISHOP

Almighty God, who by thy Son Jesus Christ didst give thy holy Apostles many excellent gifts, and didst charge them to feed thy flock; we humbly request thy favor and blessing as we seek a new bishop and defender of the faith for the Diocese of Fort Worth. In thy good time, bring us a good shepherd who will diligently preach thy Word, and duly administer the godly discipline thereof, that we and all thy people may obediently follow the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE PRAYER FOR THE COURTS

ALMIGHTY God, who sittest in the throne judging right; We humbly beseech thee to bless the courts of justice, the magistrates in all this land, and the Supreme Court of Texas; and give unto them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, that they may discern the truth, and impartially administer the law in the fear of thee alone; we beseech thee also to pour out thy grace upon our diocesan attorney, Scott Brister; through thy Son who shall come to be our Judge, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

DIOCESAN CONVENTIONAND OTHER DIOCESAN NEWS

The 36th Annual Convention of the Diocese of Fort Worth is being held Friday and Saturday, November 9 and 10, at The Anglican Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, 3900 Morris Lane in Arlington. The theme of this year’s Convention is “Hope and a Future.” The Opening Eucharist will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening. This year Bishop Iker will give his Convention address, in place of the homily, at this service. Everyone in the diocese is welcome to attend this Eucharist, though the dinner following the service is by advance reservation only.

Bishop William Wantland, Assisting Bishop in our Diocese, will preside at Saturday’s Business Session of the Convention which will take place in the Great Hall at St. Peter and St. Paul Church. Morning Prayer will be offered on the floor of the Convention at 8:30 a.m., and the Convention will be called to order

at 9:00 a.m. The business will include various diocesan elections and a number of interesting reports about ministries and activities around the diocese. St. Andrew’s will be represented by our clergy and by five lay delegates: Stacey Rumfelt, Judy Mayo, Paul Prater, Jim Rhea, and Debbie Mitchell.

Bishop Iker announced to the diocese his retirement plans this past August. This was before he had received his cancer diagnosis. He asked the diocese to begin the process leading to the election of a Bishop Coadjutor (a Bishop who will succeed him when he retires on December 31, 2019). Following a number of elections held in various venues around our diocese, a group of 28 persons (14 clergy, 14 lay) were chosen to serve on The Nominating Committee for the Bishop Coadjutor. Four of these persons are from St. Andrew’s: the Rev’d Jake Worley, Judy Mayo, Debbie Petta, and John Cook. The Nominating Committee is chaired by the Rev’d Edward Kresowaty, Rector of St. Alban’s Church, Arlington. Staff and SceptreThe Lord’s patient, fatherly hand of correction and direction is often hard to discern. In this study, we will discuss how our God moves slowly and surely toward a righteous judgement only after many offerings of grace and redemption. Jeff Anderson will teach.
