01_ The specfic layout of the program, the tectonic system, and a closer analysis of the immediate site, led to the form and experience of the Columbia University Boathouse. The project signifies the site’s surroundings, specifically the existence of edges, nested spaces, and carved pathways. By defining all three conditions it is made clear that there is a parallel between their binary oppo-sitions. Therefore, by definition, all three conditions exist simultaneously. The experience of the space has qualities of an edge, a nested space, and a carved pathway, while not specfically defining each space as one or the other but allowing all three to exisit at every moment.

experiences constant air flow, preventing the boats from rotting.

02_ An unconvential social agenda is driven by unique spaces, which call for a change in “typical” social interaction. The design of the building strives to find and accentuate the quirks and atypical aspects of communcal living, which is inherintly and almost undeni-ably never private. Designing eccentric spaces, a diverse circulation system and a catalog of glazing coming from a unit to cluster to floor aggregation, begins to accentuate all aspects of social communcal interaction (starting from a single bed and ending with the immediate surrounding community. This allows to disintegrate boundries both visually and phyiscally.

03_ Space has the ability to make you feel small, while si-multaniously inspire you to appreciate your immediate surroundings and relationships; this is promoted through exploration and curiosity in the observatory. By spread-ing the program apart and creating clear circulation and moments with very specific views, you can experience the vastness while appreciating the immediate. Specific program planning, intentional glazing placement, and a tectonic system such as the wood screens allows for very intentional circulation and views, which leads to the in-dended phenomenological experience.

04_ Informed by an initial diagrammatic study of a single book, the design for the New York Public Library is based on the idea of being together alone and being alone together. The banded plan allows for a rear courtyard where groups can gather and work together away from the noise of the busy public corner. The exterior tectonic system allows for personal benches and seating with seperations, while simultaneously providing a view of the outside. The section consists of three floors repeated three times. The facade is based on the placement of the book stacks and works to block sunlight from damaging the books.

05_ The temporary of a tourist, intimacy of a spa, privacy of a residence, and intention of spa essentials production are tested in order to create an experience that blurs the division between the experience of each of these programs. Situated in the middle of the oldest area in Beijing, this building is meant to attract diverse users from all over Beijing and challange how they interact. The goal of the design is not to question the culture or history of the site but rather to question social interaction and constructs as a whole. A deep understanding of the ancient yet still current urban fabric paired with an extensive study of Japanese urban and suburban street circulation were the tools uses in creating a design that will challange social patterns.
