‘The Latter Days’

Daniel 10:1-3 In the third

year of Cyrus king of Persia athing was revealed untoDaniel, whose name was calledBelteshazzar; and the thingwas true, but the time

appointed was long: and heunderstood the thing, andhad understanding of thevision. In those days I Danielwas mourning three fullweeks. I ate no pleasantbread, neither came flesh norwine in my mouth, neither didI anoint myself at all, tillthree whole weeks werefulfilled.”

Again we find Daniel fasting andpraying for to understand thevision that had been given tohim. Notice that fasting in the

Bible does not always mean goingtotally without eating; in thiscase Daniel ate very plain food,nothing fancy. He prayedearnestly for help.

He was still worried that theJews might not get to return toJerusalem as the prophecy inJeremiah had said. He knew Godwas true, and His word never

fails but he also knew that manyof the Jews were still inrebellion against God and werenot obeying Him.

This is one of the importantdifferences between a „psychic‟and a real prophet of God. Apsychic just goes into a tranceand gets his information (orpretends to) whenever he wants;a true prophet must wait forGod to see fit to give him

information.

Daniel 10:4-6 “And in the four and twentieth day of the first month,as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel; Then I liftedup mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen,

whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was likethe beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as

lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass,and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.”

Turn over to Revelation 1 in your Bible and read there the descriptionof what Jesus looked like when He came to see John; then you will knowWho it was that Daniel saw. It was Jesus, who evidently came with the

angel Gabriel to Daniel.This description is similar to that given by John when Christ was

revealed to him upon the Isle of Patmos. No less a personage than theSon of God appeared to Daniel. Our Lord comes with another heavenly

messenger to teach Daniel what would take place in the latter days.

7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me sawnot the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled tohide themselves.

Now Daniel was down by the river „Hiddekel‟ (the Tigris) and he hadpeople with him. They did not see what Daniel saw, but they knewsomething was happening. They were afraid and quickly ran away to hide!Unless a person truly belongs to God, he will be terrified when heavenly

beings draw near. Notice what happened to Daniel:

Verses 8, 9 “Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, andthere remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in meinto corruption, and I retained no strength. Yet heard I the voice of

his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deepsleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.”

There he was on his face on theground helpless. Then he was

given strength and the angelhelped him up. But even then he

„stood trembling.‟ If you meet people who boastthat they know God and yet

they are proud and like to bragabout how holy they are; youcan know for sure that theydon‟t really know God, they

have never really come close to

Him; because anybody whoreally talks with God, will bequiet and very humble.

Daniel 10:10-13 “And, behold, an handtouched me, which set me upon my kneesand upon the palms of my hands. And he

said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly

beloved, understand the words that Ispeak unto thee, and stand upright: forunto thee am I now sent. And when hehad spoken this word unto me, I stoodtrembling. Then said he unto me, Fear

not, Daniel: for from the first day thatthou didst set thine heart tounderstand, and to chasten thyself

before thy God, thy words were heard,and I am come for thy words. But the

prince of the kingdom of Persiawithstood me one and twenty days: but,lo, Michael, one of the chief princes,

came to help me; and I remained therewith the kings of Persia.”

Now we see a very important thing here- Gabriel tells Daniel how hisprayers had been heard right from the first day, but Gabriel also tells

him that he had been working with Cyrus to get him to fulfill theprophecy and allow the Jews to return to Jerusalem. Who was the"Prince of Persia"? In this case it was Satan influencing the man whowas the King of Persia. Satan was working there to try and stop God'swork; and for three weeks the king seemed more interested in listening

to Satan. Many unseen battles go on that humans have no idea of.

But then it says Michael came to help him and the battle was won. Whois Michael? It is Jesus. The true meaning for 'Michael, one of the chief

princes,' is 'Michael, the chief or first of the princes.' The name'Michael' means 'He who is like the Most High.' This title was covetedby Lucifer. See Isaiah 14:14. But it rightly belongs to the One we knowas Jesus Christ. You will find in the Bible that when Michael is named itis involving something to do with the battle between Christ and Satan.

Then Gabriel tells Daniel that he is going to stay with Cyrus, fighting tohave him follow the will of God and when he would leave - then theMedo Persian kingdom would fall to Greece.Always remember that no matter how dark and scary things in thisworld may be; that God is in charge and He will only allow Satan to goso far and no further. If you are surrendered to Jesus, you are safeunder His wings!

Daniel 10:14 “Now I am come to make thee understand what shallbefall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.”

This was the reason Gabriel was there to talk to Daniel, to help him tounderstand. God wants us to understand what He has shown to us in the

Bible Prophecies. He will help us also if we pray and ask Him to teach

us.

Here are some more facts about Gabriel:The words of the angel, "I am Gabriel,that stand in the presence of God," [Luke1:19] show that he holds a position of high

honour in the heavenly courts. When hecame with a message to Daniel, he said,"There is none that holdeth with me inthese things, but Michael [Christ] yourPrince." Daniel 10:21. Of Gabriel the

Saviour speaks in the Revelation, sayingthat "He sent and signified it by His angelunto His servant John." Revelation 1:1. Andto John the angel declared, "See thou doit not: for I am thy fellowservant, and ofthy brethren the prophets, and of themwhich keep the sayings of this book:worship God.." Revelation 22:9. Wonderfulthought, that the angel who stands next inhonour to the Son of God is the onechosen to open the purposes of God to

sinful men.

Don‟t ever think that you are not important to Jesus; He would sendevery angel out of heaven to come and help you rather that have one of

His true children overcome by Satan!

15 And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face towardthe ground, and I became dumb.16 And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched mylips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stoodbefore me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, andI have retained no strength.

Then Daniel became dumb (couldn‟t speak) and fell on his face again.The angel touched him so he could speak and tried to comfort himtelling him, "O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words thatI speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent."Then the angel changed and appeared as a man and finally Daniel could

stand after being strengthened again.

Daniel 10:17 “For how can the servant of this my lord talk with thismy lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength inme, neither is there breath left in me.” This is another sign of a true prophet of God; they do not breaththe whole time they are in a vision! We do not know how long Danielwas in vision, but Ellen White was sometimes in one for more thanan hour and she DIDN‟T BREATH the whole time. This was often

proven, even by medical doctors!

appearance of a man, and hestrengthened me,19 And said, O man greatly

beloved, fear not: peace be untothee, be strong, yea, be strong.

And when he had spoken unto me,I was strengthened, and said, Let

my lord speak; for thou haststrengthened me.

20 Then said he, Knowest thouwherefore I come unto thee? and

now will I return to fight with theprince of Persia: and when I am

gone forth, lo, the prince of Greciashall come.

Again notice the "Prince ofPersia" which is Satan inthis passage. All throughthe history of this worldand still today, God'sangels work with theearth's rulers to guide andbring about eventsaccording to His will.

Daniel 10:21 “But I willshew thee that which isnoted in the scripture oftruth: and there is nonethat holdeth with me in

these things, but Michael your prince.”

“The Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto Hisservants and prophets." While "the secret things belong unto theLord our God," "those things which are revealed belong unto us andto our children forever." Amos 3:7; Deuteronomy 29:29.

God has given these things to us, and His blessing will attend thereverent, prayerful study of the prophetic scriptures. There seemsto be a lot of people running around these days that are quick totell you that there is no sense for you to try and study and learnthe Bible prophesies and truths, because only the important people

with many years in worldly schools can tell you what they mean.

They didn‟t let the peopleread the Bible for

themselves but told themonly the important people;the church leaders could

understand it.

soon as you can read, you canstart to learn the Bible and

prophecies for yourself! And if you pray and ask God to send his

angels and the Holy Spirit to

teach you and let you be in Jesus‟school; He will teach you! Oh, youmay not see the angel, but aftera while, you will get to know he isthere. God wants you to KNOW,

don‟t let anyone take that awayfrom you!

Now there is another thought I want to share with you:If one angel from heaven caused the Roman guard to fall as dead men,

how can those who are unprepared, unholy, bear the sight and live, ofseeing Jesus in the glory of His Father and ten thousand angels

accompanying Him. O how can sinners bear this sight! They will cry forrocks and mountains to fall on them, and hide them from the face of

Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.

Remember how the peoplewho were with Daniel when

the vision came were

terrified and ran to hidethemselves? They wereprobably not believers in

God. In order to be able tobear the presence of

heavenly beings, we must

totally belong to God.But even Daniel was

overcome by the presenceof the heavenly beings. BUT,and here is the good news;

God strengthened him. IfDaniel would have been livinga sinful life, he would have

died when the heavenlybeings came to him. But he

belonged fully to Jesus.

people; “Oh, don‟tworry about the sins

in your life. Jesusunderstands. You cando whatever you like

and just ask Jesus toforgive and you willstill go to heaven.”This, readers, is aLIE and those who

tell it are workingfor Satan whetherthey know it or not!

As you read the Bible and get

to really know God‟s truths, you will learn that any sinthat is NOT forsaken (thatmeans you haven‟t chosen to

give it up and stop doing it) is

not forgiven! To be ready tomeet Jesus; there must be nosins left that we have notasked Jesus to forgive andallowed Him to remove from

our lives.

Jesus only FORGIVES thosesins we are willing for Him to

REMOVE from our lives.

What if you are not willing togive up a sin? Don‟t despair—

just ask Jesus to make youwilling; tell Him “I am willing

to be made willing”. Thenthings you think you can

never give up— will be easy to

throw away in the Power ofJesus. Remember that it isJesus‟ own Victory that is

given to us, we can‟t do it ourselves, but Jesus won‟t do it

without our choosing andasking!
