The Ford Program promotes a
holistic model for human
development. Through
partnerships with local
institutions, Ford is able to work
with local leadership and promote
community engagement.
Ford Family aims to integrate
lessons from research into the
design and implementation of
innovative and sustainable

The Ford Family Program believes in utilizing
community engagement to empower and promote
development in areas challenged with poverty.
Through listening and learning, communities will
reflect, identify problems, and develop their own
strategies for development. Local leadership will drive
project planning and implementation, with communi ty
ownership as the cornerstone for sustainability.
Dandora is an eastern suburb of Kenyas capitol
city of Nairobi. The community struggles to
access basic services; including running water,
electricity, sanitation maintenance, health care, access to schools, and transportation services.
The large, solid waste dump site has become an
extreme health hazard to the 200,000 people
living in Dandora. The dump site also
contributes largely to corruption, crime, and
violence. The community suffers from extreme
poverty, pollution, disease, lack of education and
social injustice. The Ford Family Program is
partnering with the Holy Cross Parish to address
the many issues in Dandora.

MOVING FORWARD
The Ford Family Program aims to build solidarity, alleviate human suffering, and make a positive, measurable, and sustainable difference in peoples lives.
Through the process of community
engagement, The Ford Family has worked
with Holy Cross Parish and community
leaders to identify the needs of the
community. Local leadership then made the
decision to implement Civic Education,
Youth Radio, and Maternal Health Clinic.
The Ford Family plans to accompany the
Parish and community leaders as they design,
plan, construct and implement a maternal
health ward as an expansion of the current
health clinic. This expansion will provide a
local center for women to receive pre/post-
natal care and assistance with labor and
delivery .
