A quietly provocative exploration of perceptions of female body hair.An evocative visual and physical discourse on the grotesque, thedisgusting, the body outside cultural conventions.

This is a subtly disturbing and contemplative experience; animmersive journey to meet Spanton as Red Beast. Lying in wait, sheis the tale... and she tells the tale...

Red Beast is a tightly woven collection of impressions – of womanas fairytale, as feral, as half-woman-half-beast, as surreal, as a child, astrapped, as part of us, as part of nature, as transgressive, asabandoned, as afraid, as fearless.

Red Beast is a guided journey through live performance, videoinstallation, image-text exhibition and an opportunity to contributeto an artist’s book – gifted to each participant.

DanceMakers – a working relationship in 10 actsis a humorous lecture performance, portraying the dancer-choreographer relationship. In ten sequential episodes Dan Watsonand Manuela Berndt embark on a journey through audition paranoia, rehearsal scenes and private moments, and experience the greatinterdependency, common misunderstandings and precariousseduction between the two forces that create the dance.

Hyb is a duet between two opposed individuals gradually mutatinginto super bodies. The term Hybrid describes a mixture or acombination of previously separate systems of different species andprocesses, which create a newly compound whole. In this compellingchoreography the dancers’ distinctive physicality and movementquality merge to create an innovative form freed from genre andvocabulary, also integrating film, projections and sound.

Choreographer Manuela Berndt is one of The Fourteen, a group ofdance artists participating in Yorkshire Dance’s LIFT. Funded by ArtsCouncil England, LIFT is a career mentoring programme enablingYorkshire Dance to fund two Associated Artists and The Fourteenthrough a programme of residencies and training.
