A down-and-out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon, the plant grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore that offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite. Says director Amanda White, “Little Shop has so much of what I love in musicals: a rocking score, deep sincerity, weird and magical events, a distinct style, and that most elusive element – heart. Come see it because it's strange, it's in a garage on the outskirts of town, there will be awesome artists singing an inch or two away from your knees, and there's a carnivorous neon plant puppet in the cast. What could possibly go wrong?” Little Shop of Horrors premiered Off-Off-Broadway in 1982 before moving Off-Broadway for a five-year run. It made its Broadway debut when it was later revived in 2003. The music was written by Alan Menken, best known for his work with Disney, which includes the smash hits Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Enchanted, and Newsies. “I can’t tell you how excited I am,” said Ben Thietje, who will play floral assistant “Seymoure.” “The cast we’ve been lucky enough to assemble is top-notch. There are so many great voices. That little garage is going to be filled to the brim with fun!” The show features Thietje, as well as Minnesota stage veterans Brad Erickson, Rebecca Gebhart, Brandon Jackson, Christine Karki, Mary Rudquist, and Grif Sadow. Tom Karki, who played “Smudge” in last summer’s production of Forever Plaid, will voice the plant, while New Prague local Toby Thietje will act as puppeteer. The production is directed by Amanda White, Twin Cities director, actor, and Managing Director of Mixed Blood Theatre Company in Minneapolis. This season of DalekoArts productions is once again being sponsored by Prairie Pond Winery. All patrons who bring proof of attendance, will receive a buy-one-get-one offer. "A visit to Prairie Pond after the show turns an already fun evening into one that’s simply unbeatable," said Thietje. All performances will be held at the DA Garage – 470 5 th Ave SW, New Prague. Individual tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased by calling 952-314-9077 or by visiting DalekoArts.com. # # # (Fact Sheet on Page 2)
