A vibrant UK dairy industry that enables people, environment and business to thrive

Our visionThe UK dairy industry has come together because we know that the world is changing fast, and we face both challenges and opportunities that we need to tackle together. We are passionate about building an industry that will last; an industry that is successful and respected around the world. An industry that offers exciting career opportunities and is fair to all those who work in it; an industry that attracts entrepreneurialism, innovation and investment; and an industry that takes seriously its role in protecting the natural resources that we all depend on, from soil to water to animals. The dairy industry is a vital part of the broader food system: its products have the potential to deliver key nutritional benefits to people, contribute to a vibrant, sustainable farming industry in the UK, and deliver economic benefits across the supply chain. This document lays out our vision for doing so, and how we plan to achieve it.

This isn’t a map, and there are no exact pathways to follow. It is a framework made up of Guiding Principles that will help us orientate our way through the complexities and challenges we are already being faced with. It marks the beginning of a process, not the end. The Dairy 2020 initiative is supported by people and organisations across the whole of the UK dairy industry, and we will work collaboratively to implement actions which will meet the Guiding Principles and help us achieve our vision.

Our vision is ambitious, but we believe that by working together and facing our challenges head on, we can build an industry that we can be proud of, and play our part in creating a sustainable world.
