Cynthia Gary made the Saturday, June 11, 2016 "Runoff Election" by finishing second behind Councilman Chris Preston back in the Saturday, May 7, 2016 General Election. Susan Soto was also in the race and finished third. Since no candidate received a majority of the vote, Cynthia Gary and councilman Preston must now face off in the Saturday, June 11, 2016 "Runoff Election". Cynthia has earned the endorsements of Mayor Allen Owen (Mayor of Missouri City, Texas), Councilman Jerry Wyatt (the At-Large Position #1 Council Member), and Councilman Floyd Emery (the District D Council Member), and many other leaders.

Mayor Allen Owen is Missouri City's 10th mayorsince the city's incorporation in 1956. MayorOwen and his family have lived in Missouri Citymore than 36 years. Mayor Owen continues todedicate much of his time and expertise to-wards the development of a community wherehe and his wife of 46 years, Jane, raised theirthree children.

Owen has served as mayor since his electionto that position on May 7, 1994. Prior to that timehe was a member of thePlanning and Zoning Com-mission for five years and aCity Council member foreight years, including serv-ing as mayor pro-tem.

A victory by Cynthia Gary inthe runoff race for Missouri City Council At-LargePosition #2 would make Cynthia the firstAfrican American woman to represent MissouriCity as an at-large councilwoman. However, avictory over the incumbent (Chris Preston) wouldnot be the first time that she's had her name writ-ten in the history books in the "Show Me City".Back in 2007 Dr. Cynthia Gary defeated (District B)incumbent Missouri City Councilman Don Smith ina landslide victory en route to becoming the firstAfrican American woman to hold a city councilseat in the city’s fifty-year history.

MEET CYNTHIA & EJA Community Advocate

Cynthia is deeply involved in and passionate abouther community and her city. Cynthia created aYouth Council which prepares youth for their futurein academics and employment; because of the for-mation of this council, she was instrumental inplacing young people on summer jobs. She men-tors at the elementary school level and chaper-ones on high school field trips. She took a group ofstudent volunteers to New Orleans to participate inthe Katrina relief efforts. She also helped establisha central command station as a point of distribu-tion for victims of hurricane Ike. Over 3000 com-munity residents were assisted in that effort.Cynthia is an active member of the Fountain ofPraise Church where she and her husbandEverette are ordained Deacon/Deaconess andStewardship Coordinators, responsible for raisingspiritual awareness and focusing on the time, tal-ent and treasure in each member. Cynthia serveson many boards and community organizations andis a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, In-corporated and received the “Women That HaveMade Change” award.

A Mother, Wife and Sister

Cynthia is a loving mother of three wonderfulsons, one of whom is an active Houston police of-ficer. She and husband Everette met at the age

of 14 and have been married for 34 years.Everette is a retired Sr. Special Agent for the De-partment of Justice. Cynthia is proud of her sister,a veteran of the Houston Police Department. Hersister’s triumph over breast cancer, heart diseaseand stroke encouraged Cynthia to become anambassador for the American Heart Association.Her dedication and commitment to family is thesource of her strength.

A Civic Leader

As a former Missouri City Councilmember andFBISD Board Trustee public servant, Cynthia hasserved her community well. A strong leader in cityaffairs, she fights to keeps taxes low and to in-crease public safety. She pushes for communityrevitalization and raises awareness concerningthose issues that affect the well being of the city.She is very involved in her community and servesas the "Neighborhood Representative" in thePlantation Trails subdivision.

An Educator

Academic excellence is very important to Cyn-thia. She is an educator who holds a Doctorate ofMinistry (Christian Counseling), Master of Arts inSociology, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistrywith a double minor in Mathematics and Biology.

A Law Enforcement Professional

As a Forensic Scientist, Cynthia has seen first-hand the effect of crime in our region. HerCriminalist background has allowed her to ana-lyze circumstances from a nuts and bolts per-spective. Her family is deeply rooted in LawEnforcement from the local to the federal level.Cynthia understands how to “connect the dots”to reveal the cause and effect of circumstance.Consequently, she is able to determine effec-tive solutions for challenging issues.
