AerospaceCompositeMaterialsLabDesign, manufacturing and testing of high performancecomposite materials for aerospace applications.Embedding of sensor/actuators devices for healthmonitoring capability. Autoclave for vacuum baggingtechnique, milling machine for post processing, ultrasonicphased array device for nonͲdestructive testing.

StructuralDynamicsLabDevelopments of experimental modal analysis techniquebased on both input/output and outputͲonlymeasurements. Identification of structural dynamicproperties from flying test and GVT of fixed wing androtating wing vehicles. Environmental testing for designqualification and flight acceptance of space structures andmechanical components undergoing severe vibrationlevel. Vibration reduction methods via PZT patchespassively used. Developments of sensitivity basedstructural updating techniques and structural damageidentification methods.

SmartStructuresLab

Development of active structures for vibration control, health monitoring and shape morphing in the context ofaerospace systems. The exploitation of piezoelectricmaterials is tested for wireless sensor network and energyharvesting capabilities.

ComputationalMechanicsLab

Numerical simulations of aerospace structures by finiteelement procedures for nonlinear analysis (largedisplacements, large strains, material nonlinearity e.g.rubber) and multiphysics (thermal and thermoelasticanalysis, piezoelectric analysis)

ComputationalSpaceRoboticsandMultibodyDynamicsLab

The activities of the laboratory are relevant to thedevelopment of space manipulators and robotic armsfrom mechanical, dynamical and control point of view.Interactions with autonomous space systems are alsoinvestigated, studied and simulated numerically andexperimentally.

ComputationalDynamicsandFSILabDevelopment of multidisciplinary reducedͲorder models(ROM) for the dynamics of aerospace structures and forthe solution of stability and response problems inducedby fluidͲstructures interactions (FSI) in aircraft, launchvehicles, and rotorcraft.
