CONTRIBUTIONS TO DIVERSITY CONTRIBUTIONS TO DIVERSITY Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to my academic work. As a bicultural, bilingual Latina physician and researcher, I have focused my scholarly work on the impact of ethnicity and acculturation on health outcomes. As a leader in Pediatrics and in the School of Medicine, I have been involved in many efforts to promote diversity and inclusion at the departmental, institutional, and organizational levels. As a faculty leader at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, I am proud to have recruited and supported a diverse group of faculty and staff. Currently, 19% of the Pediatric faculty at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital are underrepresented in medicine, approximately three times higher than the proportion of underrepresented faculty in the department. Over my ten-year service as a leader I have recruited nearly all our underrepresented faculty members and our service promotes diversity and inclusion in every aspect of academic life.

MENTORING SUMMARY I have been actively involved in mentoring throughout my career. Mentoring is an activity that I enjoy and in which I am heavily invested. As the beneficiary of outstanding mentorship, I understand the impact of mentorship and strive to be an effective mentor. Currently I mentor every Pediatric faculty member at the ZSFG, our chief residents, and faculty members at UCSF as well as other institutions. I have acquired new mentoring relationships through "Meet the Professor" sessions at the Pediatric Academic Societies' Annual Meeting and the APA RAPID program, which focuses on underrepresented junior faculty members. In 2019 I hosted a discussion of diversity and success in academic pediatrics at the meeting of the Pediatric Academic Societies. For the last five years I have served as co-chair of the American Pediatric Society's Career Support Committee, which promotes mentoring for pediatric leaders.

RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITIES RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITIES SUMMARY For twenty-five years, my research in perinatal epidemiology has focused on health disparities in perinatal outcomes and the impact of acculturation on health outcomes. I have also studied health disparities related to other health outcomes, including adult health outcomes, through research collaborations with colleagues such as Dr. Christina Mangurian in the UCSF Department of Psychiatry. After I joined the Dean’s office in 2012, my scholarship has expanded to include issues such as professionalism, misconduct, and sexual harassment. In recent years I have collaborated with Pediatric colleagues at other institutions to address topics such as organizational strategies to address disparities and the promotion of child health.
