  2. 2. PRE READING ACTIVITY Introduction
  3. 3. Teacher starts the class by showing a video about a social experiment of how treatment was given differently towards the rich and poor people. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiI5j1OvDxk Teacher asks students to take notes of what they think about the video
  4. 4. After the video is finished, teacher makes a table comparing how the rich and the poor were being treated. (Appendix 1) The teacher asks students to use words to describe how the rich and poor people were being treated. Expected answers would be: respected, ignored, nice, rude, etc. Students are allowed to use dictionary to look up more words.
  5. 5. WHILE READING ACTIVITY Development After reading the story, teacher gives out a few questions for the students to answer
  6. 6. `When I saw you just now,' said the waiter, `I couldn't stop myself from falling in love with you. You are so beautiful. Please tell me you will see me . . . I know I can offer you more than that rich fool you're sitting with. I may not have his money or his looks, but I love you far more than he ever could. Please be mine!' page 14 1. From the extract above, why is the waiter try to convince Anna that he can offer more than that rich fool. Does it matter that he was not rich as the Mr Amos?

Momma seemed satified with my explanation that things had just not worked out between me and Mr Amos, although she thought it a wasted opportunity - she wanted me to have a rich husband. page 20 2. From the extract above, why does Annas mother think that it was a wasted opportunity? What does opportunity means in the context?

  10. 10. Hold a debate between students. Teacher divides students into two groups. One group would support why being rich should be seen highly by society. One group would support why being poor should not be seen poorly by society.
