ANY QUESTIONS WE CAN HELP YOU WITH?

The Dental Dental Community Outreach program, Going Beyond Benefits, visited Wen-

dell Middle School in January. This is a free service provided to schools in our area as a

great way to help the children of our community receive help/tips on good oral hygiene.

54% of the students returned their parental permission form, with 69% of those agreeing

to have their child treated. 60 students were seen and received oral hygiene instruction,

38 students received one or more sealants, and 58 students received fluoride varnish. If

they could not place a sealant on a student, 46 had existing sealants on one or more teeth

and 16 students had suspected decay on one or more teeth.

Delta Dental also worked with 1st and 2nd grade students at W.E.S. They had an 80%

participation rate, which is a much higher permission form return than usual!

Much thanks to Delta Dental for assisting the children of Wendell!!

A Special Meal for W.E.S. Educators

On Wednesday, January 22, the teachers at Wendell Elementary School were treated to a

special meal, compliments of Schwans, prior to meeting with parents at Parent Teacher

Conferences.

Theresa Packard, a representative of Schwans, served chicken fajitas, Italian style meat-

balls, and ice cream treats to the staff and gave a presentation of quick, healthy meals for

busy educators.

Mustaches in Mrs. McCarty’s Second Grade

Mrs. McCarty’s second grade students are not only reading, but having

a lot of fun doing it!! When the class read the story, “Big Bushy Mus-

tache”, they got to wear a disguise, a bigote (Spanish word for mus-

tache) as they read the story.

Students in second grade are learning that not only is reading a good

thing to do, it can also be FUN!!!

Whitworth College Sends Interns

Students from Spokane, Washington’s Whitworth College have been working with Wendell students at the middle

school and the elementary school for the past three weeks. Anne Hagerman Wilcox is their teacher-education professor

and has been sending college students to Wendell for the past three years. These students are working as interns under

the direct supervision of the classroom teacher. This is a great experience for these teachers-to-be and the staff of the

Wendell School District. Megan Montzingo and Cathy Bronson have worked with elementary students, and /Sarah

DeLong and Taylor Dietz have worked with middle school students.

Both the interns and our students have gained quite a bit from working together and it is hoped that this program can

continue for years to come.

ESL room at W.E.S.

Sarah DeLong working with 5th graders at W.M.S.

Taylor Dieta working with 6th graders at W.M.S.

Trojans of the Month - January

Wendell Elementary would like to recognize Jeanne Ruffing as our Trojan of the Month. Jeanne is a second grade

teacher with several years of experience knowing that teaching, learning, and fun can go together. Her students

grow academically because she knows the development of a second grader (needs busy

and engaging) is as important as getting to know them. Jeanne works hard to get to

know her students interests and thus she builds strong relationships with them.

Jeanne is a representative for the school to the

district’s Writing Committee and to the local Wen-

dell Teachers Association. She is also a good teach-

er-to-technology. Others know she is capable and

willing to help out. Her cheery demeanor and fun-

loving humor brighten even the toughest of school

days. The positive attitude and work ethics she

exemplifies are examples to all of us. Recently she

took a trip to Washington DC and had a great

time, ask her about it., she has a lot to share.

Thank you Jeanne for your commitment to educa-

tion and doing what is best for students. We are so glad you are on Team Trojan at Wendell Elementary.

Wendell Middle School has named Abbe Bothof as their Trojan of the Month. She has been a very valuable employ-

ee at Wendell Middle School since 2006. She began as a PSR worker, then in 2008 be-

came the Special Education teacher.

Abbe was raised in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School. She has a

BA in Social Work and a M.A. in Special Ed, K-6 Generalist and K-12 Special Ed.

Abbe’s three children are the light of her life; Mason is in 4th grade, Emme is in 1st

grade, and little Aubree just turned 4. She is a cat lover and also

has two dogs. Abbe rarely goes a day without running and working

out. She enjoys shopping and family time, including time spent

with her parents, to whom she is very close.

Thanks, Abbe,, for all your hard work! You truly put your heart

and soul into our students’ well being!!

Wendell High School has named Meagan Glorfield as their Trojan of the Month. She is

in her first year at Wendell School District and teaches Math.

Megan is an alumni of Wendell High School and gradu-

ated from Boise State University. Prior to coming to

Wendell Meagan taught at Pocatello School District in

the Gifted and Talented Program.

Meagan and her husband, Chase (who also teaches at

WHS) has two children, Sawyer and Kenlie. She enjoys

spending time with her family, playing with her kids,

reading, and movies.

Welcome, Meagan! You’re a great addition to our staff.
