MESSAGE FROM CSR HEAD
“It is like the seed put in the soil – the more one sows, the greater the harvest.” Orison Swett Marden
Nuvoco’s CSR Annual Report 2017-18 is a labour of love and determination. Sustainable growth and development being an
intrinsic part of our vision; Nuvoco has always been driven to bring about holistic development in our surrounding villages
and their marginalised communities. In this year alone, we have expanded our scope and have touched over 1,98,000
people across more than 100 villages in the vicinity of our cement operations.
Translating sustainability from a mere buzzword to visible and enduring results requires investment that cannot be
assessed simply on a monetary basis. The efforts that our teams on the ground take in identifying the right projects and
taking them to fruition are rewards in themselves. Having said that; the FICCI Award that we won earlier this year was an
encouraging validation of how even small but meaningful initiatives can lead to significant and long-term transformations.

Through Swasth Bharat, we provide access to primary health care, improved sanitation and
safe drinking water to our communities. Our cement plants dedicate a significant part of their
overall CSR efforts to Health and Sanitation through a range of programmes. This year, more than
96,400 community members around our plants have benefited through our efforts. Project
‘DAMRU’ is an important initiative under Swasth Bharat that has been undertaken with the Government
of Rajasthan to adopt and support 162 Anganwadi centres over the next 5 years. Through DAMRU, we aim to touch the
lives of around 9500 children and 3500 adolescent girls and mothers in rural Rajasthan as part of the district’s priority

Nuvoco joined hands with the Government of Rajasthan to adopt and support 162 Anganwadi Centres
being run by the Government-sponsored ICDS (Integrated Child Development Service) programme as part of the district’s
priority programme, ‘Project UDAAN’. This will be carried out by our Chittorgarh Cement Plant (CCP), which signed a MoU

Under the aegis of Nuvoco's Swasth Bharat pillar; the initiative will bring special focus on the needs of adolescent girls and
maternal health, and transform the 162 Anganwadi Centres (32 in Arnoda, 25 in Keli, 20 in Kanera, 34 in Mandala Charan,
13 in Binota, and 34 in Nimbahera) into modern play schools. We hope that through our collective efforts, we will be able to
bring about a visible change in the lives of around 9500 children, 3500 adolescent girls and mothers in rural Rajasthan.

Improving livelihood by imparting new skills to the youth and women to enable them to become self-reliant is driven under Saksham Bharat. Today, these programmes have matured from being just classroom sessions to linking individuals and self-help groups to income generation activities. This year, more than 2,000 people benefited through our various efforts under Saksham Bharat.
One such initiative is project ‘Samridhi’ that won the FICCI CSR Jury Award 2017 under the Women Empowerment category. This project was started as a pilot in FY 2014-15 with just ten households from small and marginal families in two villages near our Mejia plant. By gradually reviving and reinstating the Self Help Groups (SHGs), and sharing technical know-how, for promoting mushroom cultivation on a larger scale, enabled the beneficiaries to increase their overall income by nearly 40%. Today, this project supports 120 women across five villages, providing them an opportunity to be equal contributory members of their families and improving the overall quality of life through access to education, better nutrition intake and asset creation.
