Realizing the World's No. 1 Products through Innovation
Through the launch of innovative and attractive products and an emphasis on profitable solutions and services, they aim to reach the overwhelming No. 1 position in each of the primary businesses. At the same time, they continue to grow secondary businesses in related areas, such as network cameras and the retail photo segment.
Developing new business through globalized diversification and establishing the Three Regional Headquarters management system
They have intensified efforts to strengthen two new business domains for Canon: medical imaging and intelligent robots for automated production.
Also, toward the establishment of our Three Regional Headquarters management system, in addition to the center for innovation in Japan, we are adding centers in the U.S. and Europe, developing business in each of these regions in accordance with regional characteristics.
Pursuing the World's Best Manufacturing
With the aim of achieving rational production in terms of product quality and cost, we comprehensively assess such factors as distribution, parts procurement, labor and risk.
Production is further enhanced through the in-house production of tools, materials and technologies, including automated production systems.
Striving to Deliver the Highest Value
Comprehensively reinforcing global sales capabilities. In addition to developed countries, they are also working to accurately identify trends in emerging countries, such as those in Asia, Latin America and Africa, toward the establishment of effective sales structures. In developed markets they are strengthening our solutions business while in emerging markets they are focusing on the expansion of sales offices.
In Pursuit of a Sustainable Society
Building the foundations of an environmentally progressive company. Utilizing technology developed to save energy and resources, Canon is working to lessen environmental impact throughout the entire product lifecycle, from initial design and production to eventual recycling. They aim to be an environmentally progressive company that succeeds in both enriching lifestyles and protecting the environment.
Training the Leaders of Tomorrow
Imparting a corporate culture, and cultivating human resources befitting a truly excellent global company. They continuously strive to transform the company through our enterprising spirit. Along with cultivating and passing down this corporate culture, we conduct international training programs in our mission to develop global human resources.

Research and Development / Design
Paving the Way to the Future with Cutting-Edge Technologies. They carry out basic research as well as R&D into pre-competitive areas with a long-term business perspective, promptly incorporating the results of these research efforts into our technology to produce the world's No. 1 products. At Canon, they will continue to pursue technological innovation toward the realization of our goal to create new value. Research into Basic Technologies. New technologies
are fostered through intense exchanges of ideas by experts from various technological fields and the results are incorporated into their products. This is how Canon creates product value.
Research and Development / Design
R&D into Medical Imaging Technologies
They are conducting clinical evaluation in collaboration with Kyoto University aimed at commercializing adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope, useful in early-stage diagnosis of eye diseases, and photoacoustic mammography for nearly pain-free exams without radiation exposure.
Canon promotes a variety of initiatives toward the ongoing creation of innovative products, including flexible development systems and the sharing of knowhow. They put together a concept team made up mostly of younger members from the company's planning, development and design divisions. New ideas born from the exchange of opinions between our designers and developers are put to good use in creating appealing products.
Product Design
Procurement / Production / Quality / Distribution
Pursuing Quality and Productivity with a Focus on the Environment. By taking advantage of the abundant expertise and IT they have accumulated over many years, Canon carries out manufacturing in a way that is rational and thoroughly eliminates waste. In terms of raw material procurement, production, quality, distribution and recycling, they have established manufacturing systems that focus on the entire product lifecycle and continue to pursue cutting-edge innovation in quality and efficiency as well as in their environmental initiatives.
Globally Optimized Production To realize globally optimized production, Canon comprehensively considers such factors as costs, distribution, procurement, labor and environmental impact when determining the most appropriate locations for production bases.
They also promote local production for local consumption, in which everything from manufacturing to sales and recycling is carried out within a single region. At our U.S. production site in Virginia, which handles the localized production of toner cartridges, the creation of automated production lines has made possible increased productivity, space savings, reduced costs and high quality.
Procurement / Production / Quality / Distribution
Modal Shift With the aim of reducing CO2 emissions associated with transportation, Canon is promoting a modal shift, switching transportation modes from aircraft and trucks to ocean vessels and railways to reduce environmental impact.
Procurement / Production / Quality / Distribution
Quality Verification Testing
Canon uses strict standards when conducting quality testing to ensure products are safe and reliable. Measurement testing for such aspects as noise, flame resistance and electromagnetic radiation is conducted at state-of-the art facilities that have been certified for ISO/IEC and UL testing. As a result, they are able to increase development speed and product quality.

Cartridge Recycling
In 1996, Canon began collecting used ink cartridges in Japan and, since that time, has expanded this service to include Asia, Oceania, North America and Europe. Furthermore, for more than 20 years, Canon has been collecting and recycling toner cartridges for laser printers and other office devices worldwide.

Green Procurement
Green procurement prioritizes products and parts with minimal environmental burden. To ensure compliance with evolving regulations, they regularly update our green procurement standards, which were first published in 1997. In addition, Canon actively participates in activities organized by JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association) aimed at streamlining the regular surveys used to assess suppliers and other business partners.
